E-BOMB

THE WEAPON OF ELECTRIC MASS DESTRUCTION

OVERVIEW
 Introduction
 Basic idea of E-Bomb
 Coupling modes
 E-Bomb description
 Algorithm of E-Bomb blast
 Targeting of E-Bomb
 Delivering of conventional E-Bomb
 Lethality and utility
 Defence against E-Bomb
 Limitations
BASIC IDEA
 Basic overwhelms electrical
circuitry.

 It produces intense
electromagnetic pulse.

 The pulse generated produces

powerful magnetic field.

 Sufficiently strong transient

voltage is produced.
COUPLING MODES
Two kinds of coupling modes are recognised
in literature.

(1) Front door

coupling:
Coupling associated
with antenna.
(2) Back door coupling:
 Coupling associated
with electrical cables
and wires.
E-BOMB description
FCG is the most mature technology.

 Consists of ARMATURE and STATOR WINDING.

 Armature is filled with HIGH EXPLOSIVE and a

STURDY JACKET.

 Bank of capacitors are used as power source.

ALGORITHM OF E-BOMB
BLAST
 The capacitor sends electric current generating intense
magnetic field.

 Fuse mechanism ignites the explosive material.

 Short circuit is created
by explosion.

 Generation of intense
electromagnetic burst.
TARGETING OF E-BOMB
The targets are broadly divided into 3
types.
(1) Stationary targets : Targets are identified
through conventional
photograph,satellites,imaging radar and
humint operations.

(2) Mobile and camouflaged targets that radiate

overtly : Targets traced by effective ELS and
ESM system.
(3) Mobile and hidden targets which do not radiate overtly :
Targets tracked down by UE.
DELIVERING OF E-BOMB
 Fitting an electromagnetic warhead to a cruse missile
airframe.
 Conventional aircraft
 GPS satellite navigation kit.
Lethality : There is a range of possible
attack scenarios.

Vehicle control systems

Targeting systems, on the ground and on
missiles and bombs
 Communications systems
Navigation systems
long and short-range sensor systems
Utility :
Main utility: DEFENCE PURPOSE

 Navy can use it to neutralise anti-ship missiles and

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)

 Air force plans to equip its bombers, strike fighters and

cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicle with e-bomb
capabilities. When fielded it will be one of the most
sophisticated weapon to have ever existed.

It is preferred over the classes
of bombs because:
Itworks in all weather
Low cost per engagement
Possible to engage multiple targets
Not able to detect attacks
Non-lethal to humans
DEFENCE AGAINST E-
BOMB:
 Step1: Precaution relating to UE and other detectable
emissions.

 Step2: Destruction of launch platform or delivery vehicles.

 Step3: Placing equipment in an electrically conductive

enclosure.

 Step4: Hardening of the device.

LIMITATIONS :

 Thermionic technology(vacuum technology) is

resilient to e-weapon.

 Means of delivery limits e-bomb lethality.

 Problems faced in kill assessments.

CONCLUSION :
 E-bomb can act both as a boom or a bane.

E-bombs are not our future ,they are

our present and if we do not take
notice we will be left behind in the
past.
