Procedure Text

 A procedure text is used to tell how something is accomplished


through a sequence of actions or steps.

 The text organization of a procedure text:


1. Goal
2. Materials (optional)
3. Steps (a series of instructions oriented to achieving the goal)
GOAL How to Cook Rice in A Rice Cooker
What You Need:  Rice cooker
MATERIAL  A cup of rice  Rice spatula
 A cup of water  Rice bowl

Rinse a cup of rice in cold water. Rub the rice softly under the running water. Do not rub the rice too
long because it will lose its nutrients. Wash the rice once again. Then, drain the water from the rice.

Add a cup of water. Pay attention to the water ratio. The rice and the water ratio is usually 1 part rice
to 1 part water.
STEPS
Place the cooking pot in the rice cooker properly. Cover the pot. Select the cooking button right
after the light on the rice cooker turns on.

When the rice has been cooked and is resilient, flip through the rice very gently using a rice spatula.
Serve it in a rice bowl.

IMPERATIVES
o Imperative sentences to give instructions is started with the infinitive
without ‘to’ form.
E.g. Rinse a cup of rice in cold water.
Add a cup of water.

o Negative imperative is used to show that something is not allowed to be


done.
E.g. Do not rub the rice too long because it will lose its nutrients.
Don’t bleach this skirt.

MUST and MUSTN’T

o We use (must) to say that something is necessary to be done.


E.g. You must go now or you’ll be late.
The doors must be locked, otherwise a thie will break into your house.

o We use (mustn’t) to say that something is not allowed to be done.


E.g. She mustn’t say such a thing to older people. It is impolite.
visitors mustn’t feed the animals in the zoo.

Sentence connectors are used for telling actions in order (showing someone how to
do something to make things or showing the order of instructions).

 An adverb is a word that qualifies the meaning of verbs, adjectives, or


other adverbs.
 It typically answers questions like how? in what way? when? where? and to
what extent?
 It provides information about the manner, place, time, frequency, degree,
or other circumstances.
 An adverb is often an adjective + (-ly) such as slowly, suddenly, strongly,
etc.
