Marie Curie was a Polish and French physicist and chemist who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, winning it in both Physics and Chemistry - making her the only person to win a Nobel Prize in two different sciences. She discovered the elements polonium and radium, and her work aided the development of X-rays and radiology. She overcame barriers as a female scientist and became the first woman to teach at the University of Paris.
