HEALTH CARE SECTORS
DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
• The Department of Health (DOH) is the principal health agency in the
Philippines.
Three major roles in the health sector:
1. Leadership in health
2. Enabler and capacity builder
3. Administrator of specific services. Its mandate is to develop national plans,
technical standards, and guidelines on health

While pursuing its vision, the DOH adheres to the highest values of work, which
are:
a. Integrity
b. Excellence
c. Compassion and respect for human dignity
d. Commitment
e. Professionalism
f. Teamwork
g. Stewardship of the health of the people
PHILIPPINE HEALTH INSURANCE CORPORATION (PHILHEALTH)

The National Health Insurance Program was


established to provide health
insurance coverage and ensure affordable, acceptable,
available and
accessible health care services for all citizens of the
Philippines.

Introduced health technology assessment (HTA) in


the early 2000s to examine current health
interventions and find evidence to guide policy,
utilization and reimbursement.
FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION (FDA)
Regulates pharmaceuticals along
with food, vaccines, cosmetics and
health devices and equipment.

NON-GOVERNMENT
HEALTH CARE SECTORS
NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATION (NGO)

§is any non-profit, voluntary citizens' group that is


organized at the local, national or international level.
§These organizations are task-oriented and are usually
organized around particular issues such as
health, human rights or the environment

WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO)
§ It is a multilateral health organization to unite
countries in the common goals of tackling disease
and achieving better health globally.

UNITED NATIONS CHILDREN'S FUND (UNICEF)


§ The organization spends the majority of its
nonadministrative budget on promoting health
initiatives, and prioritizes the needs of the world's
most vulnerable children.
DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS/MEDECINS
SANS FRONTIERES
§is an organization that strives to help people worldwide where the need is
greatest.

CARE INTERNATIONAL
§It is a humanitarian organization with a
mission to fight global poverty.
PHILIPPINE RED CROSS
It is a humanitarian organization in the country, committed
to provide quality lifesaving services that protect the life and
dignity especially of indigent Filipinos in
vulnerable situations.

Bureau of health Devices and Technology


BHDT was created in 1999 to perform the same functions
of the BFAD but for medical devices. In addition to its
regulatory functions, the BHDT conducts its own research
on health technologies and medical devices, and it advises
the Secretary of the DOH on medical device policy
