TOPIC 3-MOMENT OF A

FORCE
Rey Kevin B. Ortuoste
A force can produce a
UNITS FOR MOMENT:
rotational force about a point
or axis. The effect of this
F kN۰m
action is called “moment of a lb۰ft
lb۰in
force” or “simply called d
moment.”

The value of the moment of a force

is measured as

MOMENT = FORCE x DISTANCE

TYPES OF SUPPORTS
1.)ROLLER SUPPORTS

-Cannot Support translation forces and rotation.

-Only support 1 axis of force, which is the force perpendicular to the surface
where the roller support is attached.
TYPES OF SUPPORTS APPLIED FORCE

2.)PINNED SUPPORTS

RX

R
RY

-Can resist all concentrated forces from any axis except

rotation(moment).
