SCULPTORS

KIND OF SCULPTURE

A. Free-standing

C. Kinetic and mobiles
This are moving three- dimensional figures, lik that are
susoended on air to move like goodluck sign we hang by the
door.
FEATURES OF A SCULPTURE

1. Line- This are shape of piece of arts, this could be


horizontal, vertical or diagonal
2. Color- This generally termed to as to its property hue and
valu
3. Texture- Texture refers to the way the object feel to the
touch.
4. Volume- This means solidity or thickness. The sculpture is
concerned with volume because a sculpture occupies space.
5. Perspective- This refers to depth or distance. The two
perspective are linear and aerial.
6. Form- This means the overall design of sculpture. There
are two kinds of forms namely closed and open for.
7. Style- Artists show individuality in there art style. They
select their style according to their tastes

SCULPTURE

o Carving- using stone, wood, ivory or bone.


o Modeling- in clay or wax.
o Casting- is a very popular method, liquid in the form of
bronze is poured into a cast and hardened. The lost wax
process is a technique used to produce cast where a clay and
plaster mould take on wax which is melted through a vent
and molten metal is poured in to replace it,
o Assemblage- sculpture is a technique that involves the
collation of several different, often found materials and
objects within one work.
SCULPTOR TECHNIQUES

1) Bronze casting-Bronze is the most popular metal for cast


metal sculptures; a cast bronze sculpture is often called simply
a "bronze". It can be used for statues, singly or in groups,
reliefs, and small statuettes and figurines, as well as bronze
elements to be fitted to other objects such as furniture.
2) Stone carving- Stone carving is an activity where pieces of
rough natural stone are shaped by the controlled removal of
stone. Owing to the permanence of the material, stone work has
survived which was created during our prehistory. Work carried
out by paleolithic societies to create flint tools is more often
referred to as knapping. Stone carving that is done to produce
lettering is more often referred to as lettering. The process of
removing stone from the earth is called mining or quarrying.
3) Wood carving- The art of fashioning or ornamenting objects
of wood by cutting with a sharp handheld implement also : an
object of wood so fashioned or ornamented
4) Ivory carving- The carving or shaping of ivory into sculptures,
ornaments, and decorative or utilitarian articles. Elephant tusks
have been the main source of ivory used for such carvings,
although the tusks of walrus and other ivory-bearing mammals
have also been worked.
