This document presents a proposal for a study on assessing the application of compassionate and respectful care for surgical patients at Dilchora Referral Hospital in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia from the patients' perspective. The study will use a descriptive cross-sectional design with questionnaires administered to eligible surgical patients above 18 years old. Independent variables include socio-demographics and perceptions of care. Results will be presented using tables, graphs and analyzed using SPSS. The budget for the study is estimated at 1380 Birr. The findings could help identify gaps in compassionate care implementation and inform improvements to enhance patient-centered services.

INTRODUCTION
• Background
Compassion is a deep awareness of the
suffering of others with the wish to relieve it.

It is not only felt for those who know but also
for those who don’t know.

mindedness, having motivational behaviors
and struggle to decrease the suffering of
others.

• Compassion builds human relationships which


can promote both physically and mentally.
• Respect for persons is frequently used
synonymous with autonomy.

Statement of the problem
• Because of increased health care need,
globally it falls at the fundamental level.
• There are variety of factors that may hinder
CRC practice.

Significance of the study
• The result of our study will help to-:
 Identify gaps existing on implementation of
CRC

 Enable local decision makers to fill gaps


existing on the implementation of CRC

 Health professional to give compassionate,


respectful, friendly, health care services for
patients at different heath care levels.
 Make patients to be happy with health
institution’s service & belief in HPs to closely
tell them their secrets leading to illness &
enabiling early recover from their disease

 Hospital administrators and HPs to promote


health institution based CRC at their hospital.

Objectives
• General objectives

 The aim of this study was to assess application


of compassionate, respectful and caring health
care service at Dilchora Referral Hospital.
• Specific objectives
 To assess the implementation of CRC among
health care professionals.

 To assess the Status of patient centered care


in Dilchora Referral Hospital: Patients
Perspective.
Methodology
• Study Area and Period
 This study will be conducted at DRH, Dire
Dawa, East Ethiopia from Dec 2021 – Feb
2122.

 Dire Dawa is one of the federal cities and


administration which is located at distance of
551 km away from A.A.
• DCH serves about 1.2 million people.

• Provides services in clinically specialty,


ophthalmology, surgery, gynecology, and
obstetrics, medicine, child and pediatrics,
OPD, major operation room and diagnostic
facilities.

• It has a capacity of around 230 beds,5


operation theaters and 193 health
professionals in different field of study on
average about six major elective operations
performed per day.

 Descriptive Cross sectional study method will


be conducted.

Source population
 All patients who admitted at DRH

Study Population
 All patients who receives anesthesia for
surgical procedures at DRH.
Eligible criteria
Inclusive criteria
 All surgical patients above 18 years old who
receives anesthesia for surgical procedures.

Exclusive criteria
 <18 years
 who can’t write / read either Amharic, Afan
Oromo, or Af Somali
 Who can’t hear and see
 In coma/unconsciousness from illness

Dependent variable
• Implementation of CRC health care service:
Good / Poor.
Independent variables
• Socio demographic variable (sex, age,
educational level, marital status, resident,
occupation, monthly income, previous
hospital admission, length of hospital stays)
Perception towards Compassionate and
respectful health care services.
• Data collection tool

• -self administered questionare will be
used.the questionarie is prepared from
litreture reviewed in the background and
litreture review,WHO work shops,EFMH guide
lines.
DATA QUALITY ASSURANCE

-the questionarie will be translated in to different languages to increase


the quality of data.

example -English-Amharic,
-English-Oromic,
-English-Somali,and others.

-For illetrate patients the questionarie will be asked in the form of interview.

-For litrate patient the questionarie asked on paper.


DATA PROCESSING, ANALYSIS
AND PRESENTATION
• After data collection is over, the data was coded, checked for
consistency, completeness , summarize, analysed and
processed by using SPSS Version 20. and
• Result of the study were presented in the form of tables, bar
graph and Pie chart.
DATA DISSEMINATION PLAN

-The final result of this research will be submitted to DDU department

of anesthesia,and Dilchora refferal hospital.


ETHICAL CONSIDERTAION
 This proposal will be submitted to DDU, college of
Medicine and health scinece department of anesthesia.
 The study will be conducted through consenting the
participants to answer the interview and answering
questions give on paper; for all individual surgical
patient.
 No personal identification will be used on data collection
&confidentially will be kept.
