The tractor’s stub shaft, often called the PTO, transfers power from the tractor
to the PTO-driven machine or implement.
At all speeds, they rotate in proportion to the speed of the tractor engine.
Note: 1000 rpm speed PTO shafts have more spins on the shaft

Advantage of PTO
1. Transferring rotational power and torque from the engine (usually via the
transmission) between your tractor and implement or attachment.
2. Ensures constant power transmission to the attachments and a very high
efficiency
3. Attachment of large and heavy devices, lower heat input into the
hydraulics, longer work intervals, lower fuel consumption
Disadvantage of PTO
The fast rotation speed, operator error, and lack of proper guarding make
PTOs a persistent hazard on farms and ranches. Injuries that can be
sustained from PTO incidents include severe contusion, cuts, spinal and
neck injuries, dislocations, broken bones, and scalping. Some incidents
can result in fatalities.
A tractor power take-off (PTO) and the PTO drive shaft of a machine are
very dangerous if used and not correctly guarded. Every year people are
killed or seriously injured in accidents involving PTOs and PTO drive
shafts.
