Getting Started with Paint

Chapter-4
Paint is a feature in Windows that you can use
to draw , colour and edit pictures.
You can use Paint to make simple pictures and
creative projects by including text and designs.
Screen Components of Paint
Open Paint by following the given steps.
– Click on the Start Button
– Click on All Programs.
– Click on Accessories.
– Click on Paint.
Paint screen Components
On the Paint screen, you will see the following components.

Title Bar: The Title bar displays the name of your drawing.

Quick Access Toolbar: At the top of the window, on the Title bar, there
is a Quick Access Toolbar with some important buttons: Save, Undo
and Redo.

The Paint button: Below the Title bar there is the Paint button. This is
the first button on the left side that opens up the main menu of Paint. It
contains various options for file operations like to Open a new or
existing image, Save an image, Print, acquire an image from a scanner
or camera and Exit Paint.

The Ribbon: The Ribbon is the central place for all Paint operation in
Windows 7. It has two tabs: Home tab and View tab. These tab
contains various command buttons that are assembled under various
groups on the ribbon.
On the Paint screen, you will see the following components.

Drawing Area: Under the tabbed menu, there is the drawing area
where you can make your drawing.

Status Bar: Below the drawing area, there is the status bar where you
can see general information about the current image.
Various Tools:
Working with Colors:
• When you click on the Home tab, under
the Colors group, you will see the Color1
and Color2 buttons. The Color1 group is
for the foreground color and Color 2 is for
the background color.
– To Change the selected foreground color, click on
the Home tab, Click the Color 1 button in the
Colors group, and then click a color square.
– To change the selected background color, click on
the Home tab, Click the Color 2 button in the
Colors group and the Click a Color Square.
– To paint with the selected foreground color, drag
the pointer by keeping the left mouse button down.
Pencil Tool
The Pencil tool is used to draw thin, free form lines or curves.
Brush Tool
The Brush tool is used to draw lines or curves that have a
different appearance and texture.
Eraser Tool
The Eraser tool is used to erase the unwanted areas of your
picture.
Fill with Color Tool
The Fill with Color tool is used to fill the entire picture, or some
closed shape area with color.
Text Tool
Using the text tool, you can also enter your own text or
messages in your picture.
Drawing Ready Made Shapes
The Paint program in Windows 7 includes ready made shapes
like rectangle, ellipse, triangles, a heart, lighting bolt, callouts
and arrows, You can use paint to draw different types of ready
made shapes as listed here.
What else you can do with the
Selected Shape
With the shape still selected, you can do
one or more of the following change its
appearance.
– To Change the line style, in the Shapes group,
check Outline, and then click a line style.
– If you don’t want your shape to have an outline,
click Outline and then click No outline.
– To change the outline size, click Size, and then
click a line size (thickness).
– Click the Color1 button in the Colors group and
then click a color for the outline.
– Click Color2 button in the Colors group , and then
click a color to fill the shape.
FACT FILE

To draw shape with equal sides, press and hold the shift
key as you drag the mouse. For example, to draw a
square, click the Rectangle, and then press and hold the
Shift key and drag the mouse.
Polygon Tool
The Polygon tool is inside the ready made shapes. Use the
Polygon tool to make a custom shape with any number of
sides. To create sides with 45-degree or 90- degree angles,
press and hold the shift key as you crease each side.
Color Picker Tool
The Color picker tool is used to set the current foreground or
background color by picking a color from the picture. This is
also the best way to copy from one object to another.

 Paint is a feature in windows that you can use to draw, color,
and edit pictures.
 The main parts of Paint screen are Title bar, Quick Access
Toolbar, Ribbon, Drawing Area, Paint button and status bar.
 We can use the Pencil tool to draw thin, free form lines and
curves.
 The Brush tool is used to draw lines of different styles and
thickness.
 Eraser tool is used to rub of the unwanted portions of drawing.
 Fill with Color tool is used to fill a drawing/closed shape with
colour.
 The text tool is used to type words in a picture.
 The Polygon tool can be used to draw different types of shapes
having straight sides.
 The color Picker tool is used to set the current and foreground
and background colour by picking a color from the picture.
