INTRODUCTION
Edge computing stores and processes the data locally, on
the IOT or mobile device it was created on, at the
“edge” of the network. Only the necessary data is
synced to a cloud or an on premise server.
WORKING OF EDGE COMPUTING
Edge computing is transferring fewer processes from the
cloud to local locations, such as users Pc, an IOT device,
or an edge server.
It works by capturing and processing information as
close to the source of data or desired event as possible.
It relies on sensors, computing devices and machinery
to collect data and feed it to edge servers or the cloud.
Overview of edge computing
Edge is a distributed computing in which processing and
computation are performed mainly on device nodes known as smart
devices or edge devices.
Its helps to provide server resources resources, data analysis, and
artificial intelligence to data collection sources and cyber physical
sources like smart sensors and actuators.
Why is edge Computing Impotant
New functionalities are offered
Easier configuration
Hacking potential is increased
Load on network is reduced
Support and updates
Cost of licensing
Why Edge Computing Matters
When IOT devices have poor connectivity.
Not efficient for IOT devices to be constant touch with
the central cloud.
As soon as data is produced, it doesn’t need to send over a
network; instead of it complies the data and sends daily
reports to the cloud for long term storage; i.e reduces the
data transferring.
Applications
Edge computing finds applications in various industries.
It is used to aggregate, process, filter and analyze data
near or at the network edge.
Examples:
Agriculture
IOT devices etc.
Advantages
Low latency
Bring company and customer together
Productivity
