BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT THE
POLICE ORGANIZATON

Local police were established under the mayors and village

headmen during the reign of the Myanmar Monarchs; they were
also military reserve members. When the Union of Myanmar
was made a British Colony in 1885, the British policing system
was put into place. The Police Force was then referred to as the
Burma Police. The Burma Police was reorganized as the
People's Police Force in 1964, and on October 1st, 1995, it
underwent another reorganization to become the Myanmar
Police Force.
BRIEF HISTORY ABOUT THE
POLICE ORGANIZATON

After 1988, the Union of Myanmar had a lot of changes.

Similar to how the Myanmar Police Force must change its
administrative structure to conform to the new national
administrative structure. The State Peace and Development
Council Secretary chairs the Committee for Reorganization
of Police Administration System, which was established on
January 28, 1994. The Committee is now reviewing the
entire system and making the necessary adjustments.
MYANMAR POLICE FORCE

MISION: “Preventing and combating transnational crime

through a greater nexus and creative policing collaboration.

AUTHORIZED STRENGTH OF
MYANMAR POLICE FORCE

It is estimated that the Myanmar Police Force comprises

twenty departments. The police were said to have 100,000
people working for them prior to the coup last year. Since
thousands of police officers joined the Civil Disobedience
Movement (CDM), while others retired or were slain by anti-
regime resistance groups, it is uncertain how many police
there are currently.
TRAININGS

There are three primary training facilities: three police training

depots, one central training institute for the Myanmar Police Force.
The State and Divisional Police Forces each have their own training
facilities for Junior Leader (NCO) Courses and refresher training.

Bachelor's degree holders from Distance Learning University were

disqualified from sitting the SIP exam. Thus vast numbers of
