TECHNOLOGIES IN JOURNALS
SOCIAL CHANGE:
• The term „Social Change‟ is used to indicate the
changes that take place in human interactions
and interrelations.
PERSUASION:
• Persuasion – Compelling
• - Faith
• - Acceptance, influence, tempt etc.
The Art of Persuasion
• What do you do when you want something from
your parents?
• Do you ask over and over again?
• Do you follow them around the house begging?
• Or do you persuade them to get what you want?
• This lesson will probably help you understand the
topic of persuasion in regards to persuasive
journalism.
• Persuasion is the act of convincing someone to share your views or values.
• You probably persuade many people on a daily basis without even knowing it.
• Maybe it's by persuading the teacher to not give homework over the long weekend or persuading your
friend to switch snacks at lunch.
• In any case, think about these moments and realize most of your day may consist of this behavior.
• We know journalism has to do with reporting the news. So, if we put these words together, it
seems persuasive journalism is the way in which journalists convince or influence their audiences
about a specific topic.
• When we persuade, we're making claims about people, ideas or experiences and then providing
evidence to support those claims. For example, a claim could look like this: ''Mom, I want to go to a
movie with Justin.'‘
• Next comes the reasoning for those claims. The reasoning can be done in several persuasive ways. By
providing the evidence, and maybe offering to do something else for your mom, you can show her all
the reasons why you should go to the movies. In this case, you could reason with Mom by telling her
she won't have to provide anything, such as money and a ride, and she will get a night off from being
a mom.
• For example,
• A journalist might discuss violence in cartoons.
• They may make claims about certain cartoons that show cartoon characters pounding each other on the
head and provide evidence based on those claims about kids who imitate the characters.
• Their intention may be to persuade you that there is too much violence in cartoons, and these particular
shows should not be allowed on TV.
INTERVIEWING TECHNIQUES
“The finished product may be a piece of writing that you craft, but the material a result of the
interviews you conduct”.
- Avoid Starbucks! It’s often easiest to suggest a centrally located corporate coffeeshop, but if there is
any way you can interview in a place that has some relevance to the story or your subject, you’ll have
much greater success.
- Even meeting at the interviewee’s favorite restaurant is more interesting than a Starbucks.
7. Avoid obsessing.
- While good notes and recording are very important, you can do yourself a dis service by obsessing
about recording every little detail of what your subject says.
8. Be a little annoying.
- Don’t be afraid to relentlessly revisit a question or topic that you feel hasn’t been properly
addressed by the interviewee.
- Sometimes people need time to warm up to you or a topic, or will respond better if your question is
worded differently. Keep trying.
9. Be a little sneaky.
- Continue taking notes even after the interview is officially over. Sometimes people say the most
revealing or intimate things when they feel they’re out of the “hot seat.”
10. Empower your subject.
- A great question to ask if you don’t fully understand the perspective of your interviewee is, “What
is your ideal solution/resolution?” Obviously this only works in certain circumstances, but when
appropriate it can help clarify a person’s point of view or opinion.
- For the most part people want to be helpful, and you just need to tell them how they can.
WALKTHROUGH:
Architecture comes not only with a visual experience but also a physical experience. Whenever a good work of
architecture is appreciated, the greatest power of visualization is also appreciated.

creates an impression. Therefore, it becomes extremely important that this translation is portrayed accurately
across all the platforms.

due to the impact of social media. With the availability of numerous digital platforms.

VIDEO COVERAGE:
A very famous Architectural Journalist Apurva Bose Dutta once said that Documenting one’s project is one thing;
writing with flair and objectivity about them is another and this is what Architectural Journalism is all about.
There should be an urge to write more than just a description or narration about the project.
The editorial voice should raise the aspects for a material, a trend in architecture, a movement or revolution in
architecture, or innovation in the structure of a building.
So, it is to say that buildings don’t have to be appreciated always but critically analyzed too.
The purpose of architectural journalism should be on the lines of making a difference in and for the society
which means that the criticism of a design can happen pre or post-construction.
There should be a constant effort to acquaint (introduce) everyone to understand the kind of architecture that is
happening in the society which will increase the demand for a good design.
VIDEO COVERAGE:
This will not only make people more critically aware of analyzing the pros and cons of an existing building but
also make an appropriate choice for a new design.
Along with that, this subject will help in bringing forward the voice of common people, thus making architecture
and design more accessible to them.
Recently blogging and architectural documentaries have gained tremendous popularity due to its ability to reach
tons of people easily; without having to wait for months to get published.
WordPress and YouTube are one such medium for the same.
