LIFE SKILLS?
SURVIVAL LIFE SKILLS
Techniques that one may use in order to
sustain life in any type of natural or built
environment are known as survival skills.
They are meant to provide basic necessities Click icon to add picture
for the sustenance of human life, such as
water, food, shelter, and so on. Survival skills
are often associated with the need to survive in a
disaster situation. Also, survival skills are often
basic ideas and abilities that ancients invented
and used themselves for thousands of years.

Being aware of what is
taking place around or the
state of being ready to see,
understand, and act in a
particular situation.

First Aid (basic wound care)
(wilderness first aid in
particular) can help a person
survive and function with
injuries and illnesses that
would otherwise kill or
compromise them.

Common and dangerous injuries include:

The person may need to


apply the contents of a first
aid kit or, if possessing the
required knowledge, naturally
occurring medicinal plants,
immobilize injured limbs, or
even transport incapacitated
comrades.

SHELTER
• Location (away from hazards,
such as cliffs; and nearby
materials, like food sources)
• Insulation (from ground, rain,
wind, air, or sun)
• Heat Source (either body heat
or fire-heated)
• Personal or Group Shelter
(having multiple individuals)

BUILDING A FIRE
A fire can keep you warm,
ward off predators, and
provide heat for cooking.
Building a fire can be harder
than it looks, especially if
the weather is damp or
overcast or in a survival
situation when you have few
or no supplies

NAVIGATION

Survival situations can often


be resolved by finding a way
to safety, or a more suitable
location to wait for rescue.

Signaling
Allows you to make contact with people who
can rescue you without having to be in actual
physical contact with them.
There are a variety of ways to signal for help:

• Fire and smokes


• Flashlights
• Bright colored clothing
• Other markers: reflective mirrors, whistles
and personal locator beacons.
