What is an E-mail?
An E-mail or electronic mail is a system of
electronic message communication via network,
especially the Internet. It is considered as the most
widely used form of communication both in and
out the workplace (Indeed Career Guide, 2020).

Résumé
In writing a résumé, you start by doing an
inward self-assessment of yourself and by
asking the questions:
•How can I encourage the employer to
pay attention to my résumé?
•What kind of résumé should I use?
Many companies post job advertisements
every year in various modes: magazines,
newspapers, Internet, career fair, and
journals. However, it seems that many
applicants still struggle to land a job.
One factor that may contribute to this
trend is the lack of skills of the job
seekers in writing effective résumés.
What is a Résumé?

Résumé (often called curriculum vitae)


is a written sales tool that summarizes
your skills, education, experiences, and
other qualifications.
A résumé literally sells you to a
prospective employer in the same manner
that a product or service is advertised in a
newspaper or magazine.
Functions of a Résumé
1. It contains your accomplishments, skills
and experience.
2. It provides the employers with a summary
of skills that you can bring to the company.
3. It shows how better you are than the other
candidates for the job.

4. It aims to help you proceed to the next
page of the recruitment process, that is,
the interview.
5. It functions as a persuasive document.

Assignment I:
Assume that you have recently graduated. Obtain a job
announcement for a position in which related to your
degree. You can get authentic job opening ads from
popular broadsheets, the Internet, or magazines.

Then write and design your own résumé based on the


needs of the prospective employer.
Assignment I:

Encode your résumé on a long-sized bond paper.


Use readable fonts such as
Times New Roman, Arial, Serif and Sans Serif.

Cover Letter
What is a Cover Letter?
Cover Letter or an application letter is a
type of personal business correspondence
which states the applicant’s intention to
work in a particular organization. It
should be enclosed every time you submit
a résumé.

Tips in Preparing a Cover Letter
Basic Format and Mechanics
•Use A4 sized bond paper or 8.5” x 13”
•Limit your cover letter to one page
•Never miss the signature.
•Use a letterhead. Include your full name,
address, phone number, and e-mail address
•Use the business letter format
•Use 1 inch to 1.5 inch margin on all sides.

Assignment II:
