• Lance Armstrong was born on 18TH September 1971.
• He is an American former professional road racing cyclist.
• He is a cancer survivor and founder of
INTRODUC LIVESTRONG FOUNDATION which works towards helping people
fight cancer.
TION • He is considered a legendary yet controversial cyclist of all time.
EARLY CAREER
• At the age of 12, he started his career as a
swimmer.
• In 1987-1988, Armstrong was ranked the
number 1 Triathlete in the U-19 age group.
• Motorola: 1992-96
• He turned into a professional with the Motorola
cycling team.
• Took his first win at Tour de France.
• In 1994, he again won the Thrift Drug Classic and
came second in the Tour DuPont in the United
States.
• He won the Clásica de San Sebastián in 1995
• He became the first American to win the La
Flèche Wallonne and again won the Tour
DuPont.
The unexpected turn
of events
• On October 2, 1996, at the age of 25, Armstrong
was diagnosed with stage three testicular
cancer.
• Armstrong's chances of survival were, he said,
"Almost none. We told Lance initially 20 to 50%
chance, mainly to give him hope.
• In January 1997, Armstrong unexpectedly
appeared at the first training camp of the
Cofidis team at Lille, riding 100 km with his new
teammates before returning to the United
States.
• In February 1997, he was declared cancer-free.
THE
COMEBACK
• Armstrong's cycling comeback began in 1998.
• During the 1998 Vuelta a España Armstrong shocked
the cycling world by finishing in the top 5 during one

• He then entered and won the Tour of Luxembourg.
• He finished 4th in both the road race and time trial at
the World Championships.
•  In 1999 he won the Tour de France.
• In 2000, Ullrich and Pantani returned to challenge
Armstrong, in which he defeated them.
• On July 25, 1999, Armstrong became the second
American to win the Tour de France.
• Won again in 2001-2002.
• In 2003 he overcame crashes and illness to claim his
fifth consecutive Tour de France.
•2004: Armstrong wins 6th Tour De France.

• 2005: He consecutively won the Tour de France


for the 7th time and then retires.

•2009: He announces his return to cycling, saying


he hoped to "raise awareness of the global cancer
burden.

•2010: Makes his first debut race at Tour Down


Under.

•2011: Armstrong again announces his retirement.


The Downfall in Lance’s
Life

• During the 1999 France Tour he fought allegations of doping.


• Doping rumours from his very first victory from Tour de
France.
• Sports Journalist Paul Kimmage got involved.
• Kimmage referred to him as a “cancer in cycling”.
• The spat continued and is exemplified in Kimmage’s article
The Irish Independence.
• Floyd Landis who was his teammate admits that he used
drugs.
• In 2004, Walsh and fellow reporter Pierre Ballester
published a book L. A. Confidentiel – Les Secrets de Lance
Armstrong.
• In 2006 French news paper Le Monde also reported claims.

Investigation
• The first break came in 2005 when A book by cycling
journalists Pierre Ballester and David Walsh,
detailed circumstantial evidence of massive doping
by Armstrong and members of his U.S. Postal Service
Pro Cycling Team.
• In 2006, an arbitration panel ruled that SCA had to
pay the bonus.
• Hamman's real goal was to force an investigation by
sporting authorities, believing that if someone in a
position to investigate the matter found that
Armstrong had indeed doped, he could be stripped
of his Tour victories – allowing SCA to get its money
back.
• U.S. federal prosecutors pursued allegations of
doping by Armstrong from 2010 to 2012.
• They met with officials from France, Belgium, Spain,
and Italy, and requested samples from the French
anti-doping agency.

• In 2013 Armstrong admits doping.


• He said, This story was so perfect for so long. It's
this myth, this perfect story, and it wasn't true.
• I viewed this situation as one big lie that I
repeated a lot of times, and as you said, it
wasn't as if I just said no and I moved off it.
