• Periodic = repeat
• Identical and equivalent points
• Lattice = a symmetric array of points in space
• Basis = one or group of atoms in each lattice point
• Primitive cell = The smallest cell or volume which is
repeated throughout the crystal
• Primitive vectors = The primitive cell is translated by
integral multiples of the smallest unit of vectors that
is called primitive vectors. They are represented by

• Points with in the lattice are indistinguishable if the
vector between the points is : r = pa + qb + sc where
p, q, and s are integers
