LIFE HISTORY OF PABLO

 Pablo was born in Colombia in 1949. His father was a


farmer and mother was a school teacher.
 Escobar is thought to have begun his criminal career as a
teenager.According to some reports, his first illegal
scheme was selling fake diplomas. He then branched out
into falsifying report cards before smuggling stereo
equipment and stealing tombstones in order to resell them.
 Escobar also stole cars, and it was this offense that
resulted in his first arrest, in 1974. Shortly thereafter, he
became an established drug smuggler, and by the mid-
1970s he had helped found the crime organization that
evolved into the Medellín cartel.
MILLIONARE AT 22

 Kidnapping and petty crimes made Escobar a millionaire at 22.


 Being a drug baron is a sure way to make some good money. He
was insanely rich and officially recognized as the 7th richest man
in the world.
 He spent over $2000 per week on rubber bands to tie the stacks of
cash together.
PLOMO OR PLATA

 Pablo’s policy in his war against government was


called ‘Plomo or Plata’ which meant ‘silver or lead’
in other words- you can accept Pablo’s bribe or you
can accept his bullets.
 If he couldn’t bribe you, he’d kill you.
 He killed about 4,000 people.
THE COCAINE KING

 He supplied 80% of cocaine to the United States and by the


90s he was worth $30 billion.
 Before Escobar hit big, he would personally fly small plane
into the US with cocaine hidden in the tires.
 He would employ professional pilots to smuggle in tons of
cocaine as much as 11 tons on one flight that made $500,000
per flight. No wonder his employees were so happy.
 He also used two small submarines to transport the massive
loads of the drug.
 He smuggled up to 15 tons of cocaine each day.
FAMILY

 When he was 26, Escobar married Maria Victoria who was just 15. Together they had two children.Once he
burned two million dollars in order to keep his family warm as he was short of firewood.
MANSION

His houses consisted of sculpture park, a private zoo with animals from various continents, courtyards, large
swimming pools and what not.
PROPERTY

 He also bought numerous residences and safe houses, 142 planes and 20 helicopters. He also had 2
submarines.
 Some of his properties are now been converted into theme park and luxury hotels.
THE ROBIN HOOD IMAGE

 Escobar cultivated a robin hood image in


Medellin.
 He sponsored local children’s football
team and built schools, churches and
sports complexes.
TO BE THE PRESIDENT

He wanted to become a president of Columbia.In 1982 Escobar was elected as an alternate member of Colombia's


Congress. But the reasons for his wealth could not stay hidden, and two years after his election he was forced to
resign.
Pablo Prison

 He was arrested and kept in La


Catedral, a prison in the city of
Medellin, Colombia. It had a football
pitch, doll house, bar, jacuzzi and
waterfall.
DEATH

 The Colombian government decided to move him to a standard prison where in process he escaped from the back gate.
 After 6 months of escape, in 1993, Escobar was shot in head by Colombian National Police as he attempted to flee across
the rooftops of his house.
FUNERAL

The Robin Hood image that Escobar had cultivated maintained a lasting influence in Medellín. Many there,
especially many of the city's poor whom Escobar had aided while he was alive, mourned his death, and over 25,000
people attended his funeral. Some of them consider him a saint and pray to him for receiving divine help.
