Alkynes are organic molecules composed of carbon-carbon triple bonds. They are unsaturated hydrocarbons that are nonpolar yet have physical properties similar to alkanes and alkenes. Properties:
Alkynes are nonpolar, unsaturated
hydrocarbons with physical properties
similar to alkanes and alkenes.
Alkynes dissolve in organic solvents, have
slight solubility in polar solvents, and are
insoluble in water. Compared to alkanes and
alkenes, alkynes have slightly higher boiling
points.

• It is also used for making polymers and it is a precursor. For
instance, vinyl chloride is used as the starting material for PVC and
chloroprene is used for synthetic rubber neoprene.
• Ethyne is used for preparing many organic solvents.
• Alkynes are commonly used to artificially ripe fruits.
• alkynes like propyne and acetylene are used as starting materials
in manufacturing plastic products.
• It is often used as a fuel for welding torches sinces it produces a
large amount of heat upon combustion.
