Platformer games get their name from the fact that the game’s character
interacts with platforms (usually running, jumping, or falling) throughout the
gameplay.
Every platformer game was played “side-on,” and characters usually ran from
left to right, in 2D.
5
Shooter Games

viewed through your eyes. You can really get into these games. The only downfall is
that you are not able to see how you look in the game, because you are seeing things
through your own eyes. Call of Duty, Half-Life, and Halo are good examples.
Third-person shooters (TPS) like Fortnite and Splatoon, the action takes place from a
viewpoint where the player can see the main character, usually from slightly above
and behind. Where third-person shooters might usually display health bars or meters
that get worse or better depending on the character's health or condition.

14
Action-Adventure Games

problem-solving and a complex plot. Notable examples of this include
Metroid Prime, Half-Life 2, Dishonored, and Far Cry 3.
16
Platform-Action-Adventure games
Which emphasize both exploration and puzzle solving, but also feature traditional
platform game conventions.

and Castlevania games; the term "Metroidvania" is derived from these latter two
and used to describe games in this genre that generally are based on two-
dimensional platformers.
Metroid combines the platforming of Super Mario Bros. and the adventure of The
Legend of Zelda with a dark science fiction atmosphere and greater emphasis on
nonlinear gameplay.

sports. Play real-world sports like baseball, basketball, soccer, and
more.

mimicking real professional athletes and how they move.
The most popular sports games are usually based around specific
popular sporting events.

25
BATTLE ROYALE GAMES
A battle royale game is a completely new game genre that blends the survival,
exploration, and scavenging elements of a survival game with last-man-standing
gameplay.
Battle royale games involve dozens to hundreds of players, who start with minimal
equipment and then must eliminate all other opponents while avoiding being
trapped outside of a shrinking "safe area", with the winner being the last player or
team alive.
The name for the genre is taken from the 2000 Japanese film Battle Royale, itself
based on the novel of the same name.
Fortnite Battle Royale, and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBGs) are two most
popular games of present-day.
26
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG)
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBGs) is an online multiplayer battle royale
game developed and published by PUBG Corporation, a subsidiary of South
Korean video game company Bluehole.
PUBG Mobile, the uber-popular battle royale title from Tencent Games, has
seen a massive global revenue gain in the first half of this year, bringing its
lifetime collection to $3 billion (roughly Rs. 22,457 crores). PUBG Mobile, along
with its Chinese variant known as Game For Peace, has collected a total of
$1.3 billion (roughly Rs. 9,731 crores) in 2020 alone. 27
ROLE PLAYING GAMES (RPG)
A role-playing game (RPG) is a genre of video game where the gamer controls a fictional character (or
characters) that undertakes a quest( )جستجوin an imaginary world.
1. The ability to improve your character over the course of the game by increasing his statistics or
levels.
2. A menu-based combat system with several choices of skills, spells, and active powers as well as
an active inventory system with wearable equipment such as armors and weapons.
3. A central quest that runs throughout the game as a storyline and additional (and usually optional)
side quests.
4. The ability to interact with elements of the environment or storyline through additional abilities (e.g.
lockpicking, disarming traps, communication skills, etc.)
5. The existence of certain character classes that define the characteristics, skills, abilities, and
28
spells of a character (e.g. wizard, thief, warrior, etc.).
Strategy Games
A strategy game is just like a war game that simulates warfare realistically.
They typically use a map that depicts ( )منظ]ر کش]ی کرن]اvarious battlefield terrain
features such as woods, hills, fields and streams, with a grid or location
system superimposed over this to regulate the movement and positions of
the games' pieces, each of which represents a specific military formation,
such as an infantry brigade or artillery battery.
29
Real-time Strategy Vs. Turn-based Strategy
How they approach the concept of time. Just look at how time flows in a game.
If time has been compartmentalized into phases, and each player or AI opponent has
allocated time slots in which to execute their strategy – you are most likely playing a turn-
based strategy game.
The simplest analog example of TBS is a board game like Monopoly and Chess.
If time flows as it does in the real world, and all players can play all at once, then you are
most likely playing a real-time strategy game. Here all decisions are made under pressure
and the constant threat of attack; there are no pauses. Or
If there is a clock in the game, it runs at 60 seconds per minute. Characters move, actions are
taken, and choices are made with the clock running consistently and incessantly. Analog
examples of this are real-world sports, (with the exception of things like time outs, penalties,
etc.)
30
PUZZLE GAMES
Puzzle or logic games usually take place on a single screen or playfield and require
the player to solve a problem to advance the action.
Logic game
A logic game requires players to solve a logic puzzle or navigate a challenge like
a maze. These games include brain games like Brain Age, but also include such
casual puzzle games as Tetris.
Trivia game
Like real trivia games, video trivia game players must answer a question before
a timer runs out (or before another player answers) to score points. Since trivia
games are especially well suited to casual play, they are increasingly growing in
popularity, especially on mobile phones.
31
EDUCATIONAL
While many parents and teachers complain about video games, there are
some great educational games out there that can help with the learning
process.
Example:
1. LittleBigPlanet
2. Reader Rabbit
3. Endless Ocean
4. LeapFrog Leapster
5. Professor Layton Series 32
