Internet of Things (IoT)
• What is IoT?
The internet of things, or IoT describes the network of
physical objects that are embedded with sensors, software,
and other technologies for the purpose of connecting and
exchanging data with other devices and system over the
internet.

• How does IoT work?

The devices contain micro-processors that processes the
data collected by the sensors through machine learning
techniques.
Internet of IoT is creating much buzz while it goes about
transforming our lives. IoT is everywhere, even
Things in though we don't always see it or know that a
device is part of the IoT. The IoT is turning
Our Daily physical objects into an ecosystem of
information shared between devices that are
Lives wearable, portable, even implantable, making our
lives technology and data rich.
Home Automation
• What is Home Automation?
Also known as domotics, a Home Automation system
monitors and control and home attributes. It may also
include home security such as access control and alarm
systems.
• How does Home Automation work?
A home automation system typically connects controlled
devices to a central smart home hub (sometimes called a
"gateway"). The user interface for control of the system
uses either wall-mounted terminals, tablet or desktop
computers, a mobile phone application, or a Web interface
that may also be accessible off-site through the Internet.
Home Automation
Reasons for its Popularity:
• Home automation has high potential for sharing data
between family members or trusted individuals for
personal security and could lead to energy saving
measures with a positive environmental impact in the
future.
• The home automation market was worth USD5.77 Billion
in 2013, predicted to reach a market value of USD12.81
Billion by the year 2020, while it stood at USD45.8 Billion
in 2017 and now predicted to reach USD114 Billion by
the end of 2025.

Elements of a Home Automation
System

Home automation is a network of hardware, communication,

and electronic interfaces that work to integrate everyday devices
with one another via the Internet.
There are three main elements of a home automation system:
• Sensors
• Controllers
• Actuators
Sensors
Sensors are devices that detect external information, replacing it
with a signal that humans and machines can distinguish.
• Sensors can monitor changes in daylight, temperature, or
motion detection. Home automation systems can then adjust
those settings to your preferences.
• They are most commonly used on doors and windows that
can be potential entry points into your home.
• App-based sensors can even send an alert to your smart
device that someone has used one of your entry points.
Controllers
Controller is the device that receives the sensors' signals,
processes them and makes computations on them. Then it sends
instruction signals to the actuators.
• The devices such as personal computers, tablets or
smartphones which are used to send and receive messages
about the status of automated features in your home
• You can control almost anything remotely - turn lights or
appliances on and off, open door locks, shut your garage,
check temperature and humidity sensors or even have
motion detectors notify you instantly if movement is
detected on your property.
Actuators

An actuator is a device that produces a motion by converting

energy and signals going into the system.
• Actuators may be light switches, motors, or motorized valves
that control the actual mechanism, or function, of a home
automation system. They are programmed to be activated by
a remote command from a controller as mentioned before.
• In a home, several appliances, furniture, and other functional
and aesthetic features depend on actuators.
• Actuators used in homes provide great convenience.
They help to reduce the effort and increase productivity.

IOT, AI and the
future
To think bigger creating a better
future.
Automation is not just a word but a requirement of everyone in the future.
Technology made it possible to control your home appliances with the help of

The
mobile application or voice assistants.

necessity People in major first world countries are quickly adopting this technology but
still, this technology is new for most people.

of home You can set timers or run schedules on your appliances once you have made
them smart, like turning on geyser at 7am automatically or turning on balcony

automation in lights at 8pm when it is dark everyday . These devices will automatically run
these commands according to the pre-defined schedules.

our This will be a revolution in the future to change simple homes into smart
homes to make consumers more comfortable and add convenience to their life.
Home automation will even help make your home secure as homeowners will

technologically be notified on their phone about any unusual activity in their smart home.

Also, it will help homeowners to recognize who is ringing their home bell from
the comfort of their phone. And they can even lock and unlock the door
according to their preference.

world. In short, home automation has a huge scope in the future. Everyone will opt for
this technology happily because of the energy saving behaviour and more
security accessibility features of smart homes.
Benefits of
Home
Automation
Safety. The ability to control small appliances and lighting with your fingertips anywhere you
are will add safety in your home. You can make sure appliances are off when it’s needed to be
off and on when it’s needed to be on.

Security. The ability to lock the door through your phone is one of the greatest benefits of
home automation. This will give you peace of mind knowing that the door is close and not
guessing. The fact that you can be alerted each time someone enters your home also allows
you to monitor who is entering your home at all times, especially when you are not there.

Convenience. The ability to control everything with your fingertips is very convenient. You
never leave the house without your wallet, keys and your smart phone. With our smart phone

finger.

Saves Time. Since we are living in a very fast-paced environment, we don’t even have time to
worry about our home. With home automation, we can save time going back to our home
and make sure everything is order, like if the kids close the door from school or turn on the
lights when you get home.

Save Money. This is the biggest advantage of home automation. With the ability to control
the light, whether dimming or turning on/off on specific time will saves homeowner a great
ton of money. You can save money through household temperature, with proper automation
in window shades and automated thermostat. In addition, you can save gas, by not driving
back home if you forgot to turn off appliances or lock the door.
AI encompasses the ability to connect multiple IoT devices,
coupled with superior processing and learning abilities, and
use them to pre-empt human behavior. AI-powered smart
home devices can interact with each other and acquire new
data that assists in learning human habits. Data collected is
used to predict the behavior of users and develop situational
awareness, i.e., understand user preferences and change
parameters accordingly.

The potential offered by IoT and AI isn’t simply limited to new

Convergence of
AI with Home
homes, because there are a lot of choices that permit existing
devices, for example, switches to be changed over to Smart
Switches, existing ACs to be adjusted to give remote access
through Smart Apps or AI dependent on cloud servers and
more.

Automation
IoT and AI will do wonders on Smart Home automation for
the better and are here to stay.
There’s an increasing trend with residential households
being “smart” which experts predict will surpass 300
million homes in 2023. With the growth of the smart
homes market, new security threats are expected to
rise. Wirelessly connected devices are more vulnerable
to cyber-attacks. Hence, safeguarding connected
devices from security threats and vulnerabilities is
essential to gain the trust of homeowners and increase
the sale of smart home devices.

What is the On the other hand, companies are trying to integrate

artificial intelligence with emotions. LG has provided a

future of AI in
cheerful personality to its Clio robot, whereas Sony is
adding a unique personality and emotion to its next-
generation Aibo Robotic dogs. With the help of
EmoShape Emotion Processing, personal assistants and
