LANDFORMS &
BODIES OF
WATER Prepared by: Teacher Jessica Paraan
OBJECTIVES
At the end of this lesson, you will be able to:

1. Identify the different landforms and the bodies of

water that are found in the Philippines.
2. Compare landforms with bodies of water.
3. Know the importance of landforms and the bodies
of water in our daily lives.

LANDFORMS
What is a LANDFORM?
A landform is a naturally-formed feature on the
Earth's surface, often with a recognizable shape
like a valley or mountain. They range in size and
can be small like hills or much larger like
mountains.
MOUNTAIN
A mountain is a piece of land
that rises above the surrounding
land.
It is taller than a hill, and it
usually has steep slopes and a
rounded or sharp peak.
It is where different plants
including trees live.
FOREST
 A forest is a piece of land that has
many trees.
 In the forest different plants and
animals live together.
 Animals find their food and shelter
in the forest.
 Some forest are found in the middle
of the mountains or in the shallow
water.
MANGROV
E
FOREST
A mangrove forest is the home of
many animals such as crabs and a
shrimps.
 This is also where many fishes lay
their eggs.
HILLS
 A hill looks like a mountain, but it is
smaller.
 You will often find small grasses in the
hills.
 A hill is a piece of land that rises higher
than everything surrounding it. It looks
like a little bump in the Earth.
 Hills are easier to climb than mountains.
They are less steep and not as high.

BODIES OF
WATER
What are the BODIES OF
WATER?
Water body refers to any collection of water and
is generally used to refer to relatively large
collections of water, like oceans, seas, lakes,
rivers, and streams.
SEA
Sea is one of the large body of water.
The water of the sea is salty.
Under the sea are coral reefs.
The coral reefs are home to many fishes.
The sea is useful in many ways. The sea is
a rich source of seafood, works as a channel
for transportation, etc.
LAKES
 Lakes are the next largest water
bodies after seas.
 This water body is always
completely surrounded by land.
 A lake can be a saltwater or
freshwater lake.
 It does not have flowing water.
RIVERS
 The river has water that flows from one
place to another.
 This type of water body is a freshwater
body which originates in mountainous
areas or raised areas.
 The water from the river goes to lakes and
seas.
 Rivers are an important source of water as
well as energy and are used greatly for
transportation purposes and as fishing
grounds.
WATERFALLS
Waterfalls are areas
where a river or stream
reaches a drop off or
cliff. The water keeps
flowing, and it falls over
the edge.

activities that can be done on
BODIES OF WATER?
