TAGORE`S PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

• Western Philosophy of education comprises two schools traditional and


modern.
• Inspired from ancient Indian philosophy of education .
• Become the representation of the eastern philosophy apart from others like
Islam, Confucianism,Taoism ,and Mahayana budhism
VIEWS OF RABINDRANATH TAGORE

• All lesson should be based on creativity.


• All should study history.
• At higher stages of education , we should give more importance to science.
• Students individual special talent to be identified and nurtured in natural and
it is essential for them .
• For higher education students learn the language based on their choice.
MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION

• The media of education discourse also become an important point pertaining to


tagore’s idea .
• The use of English in education prevented assimilation of what was taught and made
education confined only to urban areas and the upper classes rather than rural areas.
• Tagore believed that without knowledge pattern of rural living and an effort by the
school to revitalize rural life , academic learning would be incomplete. And this is
the reason behind the establishment of his own university , popularly known as
visva Bharati.
• Tagore streesed on the unnaturalness of the system of education in india , it
lacks of limits with the nation and its management which was in the hands of
a foreign government .
• He contrasted the situation in India with what he had seen in the USSR and
in Japan , where the governments had been able to educate their people
within a short time.
CONCLUSION

• Tagore may be viewed as a spiritualist in education . Generally , naturalism discards


transcendental experiences . Tagore was a naturalist but his naturalism was not a narrow
one . It was a sort of means to spiritualism which he wanted to develop among the boys .
Tagore was a great champion of education for international understanding .
• Medium of instruction Tagore emphasized on mother tounge as a medium of instruction .
Language is the true vehicle of expression.
• Tagore wanted to reform Indian education.our education system is inspired from teaching
and works of many great thinkers and philosophers.
