First wave, second Wave and third Wave
Feminism. United Nations Conferences on Women, Feminist movements in Pakistan. The Women’s Movement Abigail Adams wrote to her husband Johan Adams (second president of USA),”In the new code of laws…. I desire you would remember the ladies and be more generous and favorable to them than your ancestors. He replied ‘ as to your extraordinary code of laws, I cannot laugh… we know better than to repeal our masculine system”. Abigail Adams correctly predicted that if women are denied their rights then another revolution would ferment, which happened half a century later. Another important event which fueled the rise of feminism in United States was the French Revolution’s ideals of liberty and equality inspired the Declaration of the Rights of Men in 1789. Olympe de Gouges replied two years later with Declaration of the rights of Women where in she declared that” woman is born free and her rights are the same as those of man”. Continued… The second event which fueled feminism was the publication of a book by an English writer and activist Marry Wollstonecraft which became the bible for feminist movement.
