CHEMICAL EOR

Chemical EOR methods include polymer, Micellar-polymer and alkaline flooding.

Polymer Flooding
Used for reservoirs having low waterflooding efficiencies due to high permeability regions or fractures through which water gets redirected. Water-soluble polymer added to the waterflood to make it move through more of the reservoir rock resulting in larger oil recovery. Polymer Gel also shuts off high permeability zones.

Micellar-Polymer Flooding
Micellar slug containing a mixture of surfactant, cosurfactant, alcohol, brine and oil is made to move through the formation to release most of the oil. This method is one of the most efficient but costly EOR methods.

Alkaline Flooding
Alkaline lye or caustic solutions injected into a reservoir to react with petroleum acids to form surfactants. This helps in reducing interfacial tension, changing rock surface wettability or spontaneous emulsification. New modification ASP (Alkaline Surfactant Polymer) is a less costly form of micellar-polymer flooding.
