Markings of UL
Markings of UL
The UL Listing Mark is one of the most common UL Marks. This type of Mark is seen commonly on appliances and computer equipment, furnaces and heaters, fuses, electrical panel boards, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, fire extinguishers and sprinkler systems, personal flotation devices, bullet resistant glass, and thousands of other products.
Markings of UL
These are Marks consumers rarely see because they are specifically used on component parts that are part of a larger product or system. The component recognition marking is found on a wide range of products, including some switches, power supplies, printed wiring boards, some kinds of industrial control equipment and thousands of other products.
Markings of UL
A UL Classification is given to production grade products which have been tested and evaluated with respect to certain properties of the product. Having a UL Classification means that UL will conduct unscheduled factory follow-up visits to verify that these products continue to meet the applicable requirement.
Markings of UL
How does a Classification differ from a Listing?
The Listing service applies to products investigated by UL for reasonably foreseeable hazards and is usually found on consumer products. UL Classification service is a more extensive evaluation. Under this service, UL evaluates products with respect to certain hazards, limitations or safety conditions of performance. Classification service is primarily for the guidance of inspection authorities, commercial and industrial users, and is generally not applicable to consumer products.
Follow-Up Services
Maintaining the integrity behind the UL Mark.
UL Follow-Up Services (FUS) are critical to maintaining the integrity of the UL Mark. Not only does UL evaluate samples of products in its laboratories, UL will regularly visit locations where UL Certified products are manufactured to verify that manufacturers maintain adequate controls to continually comply with current UL requirements.
Follow-Up Services
Throughout the lifetime of the UL certification, products undergo regular inspections at manufacturing facilities to verify continued compliance with requirements.
Follow-Up Services
To help achieve consistent and ongoing compliance, manufacturers must be aware of the requirements in UL's Follow-Up Services Procedure and applicable standards as well as basic UL requirements for equipment calibration, proper application of the UL Mark and other topics.
