At the start of the year we ask Pip, from The Cooking Apple in Sevenoaks, if she would create some family recipes using ingredients from Sevenoaks Larder shopping list.
I'm excited today to be able to share the first of her recipes.
Crunchy Tuna and Sweetcorn Pasta Bake
Our pasta bake will be a firm favourite with your kids... not only to eat, but also to help to make!
Tuna and sweetcorn is a great combination, not only does it taste great but it is rich in vitamin B12, B5, B9, B6, B3, omega-3, iron and potassium.
The recipe below will feed a family of four and will take about 25 minutes to prepare and 25 minutes to bake.
Ingredients
1 can of tomato soup
75ml milk (any kind)
330g pasta (any small shapes)
185g tuna (drained)
1 Weetabix or 50g Cornflakes
1 small can of sweetcorn
80g Cheddar cheese
How to make
Cook the pasta as it says on the packet. Take ½ a mug of the pasta water out then drain the pasta and put to one side.
Put the soup & milk into the saucepan. Bring it to the boil, stirring all the time.
Once it has boiled, turn the heat down and add the tuna & the sweetcorn.
Let the sauce bubble gently for 1 min.
Add the pasta and some of the of mug of pasta water (just until it is the thickness you like).
Put into an oven proof dish.
Crush the Weetabix or Cornflakes evenly over the top and sprinkle over the grated cheese.
Bake under the grill until the cheese is bubbling and golden (you can do this in the oven if you don’t have a grill).
