4* Boutique Hotel Casa del Sole, Timisoara Review & Video
*PR: Gifted stay during press trip
Best Hotels in Timisoara
Winner of the 2018 Travellers' Choice Award, the 4-star accommodation Hotel Boutique Casa Del Sole is a stone's throw away from the heart of the Romanian city of Timisoara. Home to the European Capital of Culture for 2023.
At just a 10-minute walk from the city centre, the rich culture, fascinating history and main sightseeing and landmark attractions in Timisoara can be found. Such as the beautiful Romanian Orthodox cathedral and many buzzing historic urban squares, that are waiting to be discovered on the hotel's doorstep.
You can get to the city centre either by walking, taking a tram from the stop nearby, or jumping into an Uber which I paid approx £3-£5 per ride to do in the evenings. So, it’s affordable if you want to avoid public transport or too much walking.
In a traditional Romanian architectural style, the hotel encapsulates the historical atmosphere that the entirety of Timisoara boasts. You’ll also find an outdoor swimming pool, a grand living room and fine dining with the choice of eating and drinking alfresco.

The grand boutique hotel lobby
An inviting atmosphere is created throughout the hotel's exterior and its lobby, with splashes of orange and warm wood furnishings brightening guests' moods as soon as they arrive.
The vintage yet cosy style of the accommodation is evoked through grandiose living room chairs and beautiful antique furniture, reflecting the steep history of the city, stretching back to the 13th century. The hotel is home to more distinctive features, including a magnificent chandelier and piano, bringing a touch of elegance to the homely feeling of the hotel.
Within the Hotel Boutique Casa del Sole, you'll also come across an array of amenities to ensure you have the best stay possible. The 24-hour gym means you can indulge in a spot of exercise whenever you wish, and some relaxing time in the sauna means you can unwind after a busy day exploring the beautiful city of Timisoara.
The hotel is perfect for couples, families, groups of friends seeking a fun-filled holiday or simply for business. The hotel is also dog-friendly, so you can enjoy your time in the city with your trusted companion.
Timisoara hotels with an outdoor swimming pool
If you're visiting Romania during its hottest months as I did, then you can soak in the summer rays as you sunbathe by the outdoor swimming pool. Even the outdoor furnishings have unique touches, with colourful tiling and flourishing plants and greenery to make you feel relaxed after exploring the city.
If taking a swim in the pool doesn't take your fancy, you can instead relax in the shaded seating area near the pool, where you can take a break from the sunshine and enjoy the beautiful décor.
I particularly enjoyed the shaded area adorned with tropical plants and floaty white sheer curtains next to the pool. It’s a lovely place to sit with a coffee or book if you crave being outdoors but don’t want to be sunbathing on the sun loungers. It’s also a great place to bring your laptop and do a bit of work so that you don’t feel like you’re missing out.
Twin room in a traditional Romanian décor hotel
During my stay at this unique boutique hotel, I stayed in a Twin Room. Decorated in a traditional Romanian style, everything within the room felt truly authentic. With dark wood and deep red furniture, the room allowed guests to experience the atmosphere of a traditional Romanian home.
The two twin beds would be perfect for travelling with a friend or as a single visitor. And, although the room was quaint, it came with everything I could need for my stay, including free Wi-Fi, a TV and coffee and tea-making facilities. There are other rooms available with double beds and a slightly different style.
As someone with back and neck problems, the hard slim mattress was not ideal for me, so I did find it uncomfortable to sleep on at night and it wasn’t very wide either. Nonetheless, I was grateful for a cosy, warm place to stay after a busy itinerary experiencing Timisoara.
The hotel was a press stay organised by the Romanian tourism board, so I didn’t choose to stay here. When I’m choosing where to stay, I’d usually prefer a contemporary hotel. However, the hotel features traditional vintage interior providing a unique insight into a Romanian style so it was an authentically charming experience to have, and I would stay again.
So, I’m glad I didn’t get to choose from the hotels in Timisoara myself as it’s a wonderfully unique experience that I wouldn’t have had otherwise. Made better because it’s an independent family-run hotel who are passionate about creating memorable experiences for guests.
The room also has an en-suite bathroom with a shower and complimentary toiletries and towels.
The fine-dining restaurant and alfresco breakfast
The hotel is home to two elegant restaurants, where you can choose from international and Italian cuisine, depending on your cravings. The fine-dining restaurant is perfect for couples seeking a romantic getaway to the city.
Sit out on the terrace, overlooking the pool and soak in the tranquil atmosphere while eating a delectable meal and sipping on your choice of bespoke cocktail.
Sadly, I didn’t have time to dine at the hotel. Although I did get to enjoy a breakfast buffet each morning with a choice of continental breakfast options, so you have the choice of a light bite or a big breakfast to fill you up for a day exploring Timisoara. I would usually opt for a bowl of coco pops, a croissant and fresh fruit which I’d enjoy sitting next to the hotel’s friendly resident cat before walking into the city to meet fellow travel bloggers.
