STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Grant City residents Joan and William Dalton will celebrate 50 years of marriage on Jan. 6, 2018. They will be marking the occasion with a party in the spring.
The pair met at a party that Mrs. Dalton attended while spending the weekend spent at a friend Lois's home on Staten Island.
The Daltons were married in Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church in Long Island in 1968.
Joan Elizabeth Dalton, 69, was born in Manhattan and is a graduate of Blessed Sacrament High School and the former Assisium Business School, both in Manhattan.
She was vice president and business development officer for Northfield Bank in Brooklyn for eight years, before retiring in 2012.
Prior to working at Northfield Bank, Mrs. Dalton was employed for 25 years at Atlantic Bank of New York in Manhattan as branch manger, and as the trust administrator at a Brooklyn branch of the bank.
She enjoys walking on the South Beach Boardwalk, going to the gym, reading, attending her grandchildren's sporting events, traveling and spending time with friends and family.
Mrs. Dalton is also an avid volunteer. She volunteers at the Staten Island University Hospital patient information desk, and has organized events for deployed soldiers for Staten Island Supports Our Soldiers (SISOS).
She is also a lifetime member of Staff Sgt. Michael Ollis Post 9587 and AARP groups 4007 and 2712 on Staten Island.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Dalton served on the committee for the Guild for Exceptional Children in Brooklyn, and the board of the 13th Avenue Board of Trade. In addition, she was a member of the Bay Ridge Real Estate Board and served as deputy marshall of the Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade.
William Joseph Dalton, 70, was born in Brooklyn. A graduate of New Dorp High School, he was a firefighter for the New York City Fire Department for 25 years.
Prior to becoming a firefighter, Mr. Dalton worked as a printer for the Staten Island Advance in Grasmere for 10 years.
Mr. Dalton served in the U.S. Army for two years as a specialist 4, military police officer in Ft. Hood, Tx.
Mrs. Dalton joined her husband in Texas for two years and their first son, Sean, was born at Darnell Army Hospital in Fort Hood in 1969.
He enjoys walking, playing golf, reading, and watching his grandchildren's sporting events. In his youth, he played football for the Staten Island Tigers, and he also played on softball teams. He is a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Mr. Dalton also is a member of the American Legion Huttner-Pasqualini Post #1367, and Staten island Fireman Retirees.
The Daltons family consists of a son, Sean who lives with his wife Mika and daughter, Maxine in Park City, Utah; a son, Christopher, who lives with his wife, Lori, and sons, Ryan and Andrew in Eltingville; and a son, Billy, who lives with his wife, Nilma in Durham, N.C.
In their spare time, the couple enjoys traveling, and have visited Ireland, Aruba, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, Florida, and have taken cruises to the east an west Caribbean.
