STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Atlantic Express, a leading national provider of school bus, coach and commuter transportation, has appointed David J. Carpenter as its new chief executive officer and president.
Carpenter succeeds Domenic F. Gatto, the founder and long-serving top executive of Atlantic Express, who will remain an adviser to the company through the end of 2013.
Gene Davis, chairman of the Atlantic Express board of directors, said: "David has a long track record of strong leadership in leading managed service organizations.
As president of ARAMARK Healthcare, based in Philadelphia, Carpenter led the $2 billion organization in delivering food, plant operations, clinical technology, call center and environmental services to over 1,100 hospitals and healthcare systems across the United States. and Canada.
Carpenter led a staff of 40,000 employees and set company growth records across all business segments with over $150 million in new sales.
Prior to serving as president of ARAMARK Healthcare, Carpenter was president of National Freight Industries.
