Dr. David Fooksman, Tamara Stern are married

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Oheka Castle, Huntington, L.I. was the setting May 13 for the marriage and reception of Manhattan residents Tamara Stern and Dr. David Fooksman. Rabbi Eric Solomon of North Carolina officiated at the afternoon ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Isabell and Harry Stern of Arden Heights. The bridegroom is a son of Svetlana and Yulik Fooksman of Baltimore, Md.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride chose her brother, Steven Stern, as the man of honor. The bridesmaids were Jodi Benemerito, Ricarose Roque, Pooja Wagh, Elina Golbin, Valerie Cohen and Dr. Anna Aronova.

Leon Fooksman was the best man for his brother. The groomsmen were Jeffrey Stern, Gary Epstein, Dr. Keith Giles, Dr. Nicholas Konidaris II, Dr. Christopher White and Tim Julien.

Mrs. Fooksman is a graduate of Staten Island Technical High School, where she was salutatorian. She earned bachelor of science degrees in computer science and mathematics from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, where she also earned master of science degrees in computer science and electrical engineering and developed a graphics-based programming language geared toward teaching children how to program. She is a staff software engineer with Google Inc., Manhattan.

Dr. Fooksman is a graduate of Ownings Mills (Md.) High School. He earned a bachelor of science degree in biology, with a concentration in computer science, from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, and a doctor of philosophy degree in biophysics at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore. He is doing his post doctoral studies in immunology research, focusing on B cells, vaccine research and multiple myeloma, at New York University Hospital Langone Medical Center, Manhattan.

The newlyweds spent their honeymoon in Maldives, Dubai, Capetown, and on a safari in South Africa.
