With 7,300 lift-served acres (the most in the U.S.), 43 lifts, and nearly 350 runs, Park City Mountain really does have something for everyone. “A great place to go for multiple days because there is so much terrain that every day can be a different experience,” writes one reader. The vast terrain gives skiers a European village-to-village adventure with the Quicksilver gondola connecting the Park City and Canyons bases. “Taking the Peak-to-Peak lesson is great to learn how to stay away from the crowds.” What’s more, it’s all just 40 minutes from the brand-new Salt Lake City airport.
While skiers love to chat up the cost of lift tickets and food, there was a decided uptick in positive comments this past season from readers. “This is a spectacular ski resort. Great lifts, great food, convenient, and charming. Weekends can get a bit crowded, but the runs are worth the wait. Love the historical buildings located throughout the resort.” One of those relics is the 123-year old Mid Mountain Lodge from the legendary Silver King Mine. Order up The Boarding House, a blend of local Alpine Distilling’s Lafayette spiced whiskey with Earl Grey syrup and lemon in the full-service bar, or relax on the deck on sheepskin blankets with a poke rice bowl. With 7,300 acres, 341 trails, 47 lifts, and 16 restaurants, there’s no shortage of fun at Park City Mountain. “Big, big, big mountain. Incredible snow and fantastic variety of terrain,” says one reader. Grab a Lyft at SLC and in less than an hour, start your adventure. “Just 45 minutes from the airport, great Western town, the friendliest people on the planet,” sums up another. The focus on dining is showing with strong ratings. “Have made a real effort last couple years to upgrade food and service on the mountain. Very much appreciated.”
Craft beer aficionados will find more than two dozen Utah brews on tap at various bars and brewpubs in town. The renovated Mid Mountain Lodge was a hit last year, especially The Public House bar (try the Tuna Poke Bowl). On powder days—there were plenty last year—avoid the hardcore Jupiter or 9990 crowds and head to the glades off Saddleback and Condor lifts. “Canyons side of PC has it all—powder several days after a storm through the trees.” How’s your endurance? SKI Magazine’s 2019 Review of Park City Mountain Resort
It’s like Yogi Berra said, “Nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded.” This is the paradox of Park City Mountain Resort, the largest ski resort in the United States. People indeed love it; no place is easier to get to and has everything you want for skiing and off-mountain activities, they say. And so they come, even during last year’s marginal snow year, with Park City drawing nearly one-third of all the skier visits in Utah.
Why? Well, because it’s big, because it’s easy to get to, and because the resort surrounds the name-brand ski town of Park City proper, where they enjoy rockin’ nightlife, copious delicious dining options, and plentiful off-slope endeavors. And, with 7,000 acres to spread out on, you can ditch the masses. But there are pinch points, notably the Silverlode Lift, which serves much of Park City’s best intermediate terrain, where skiers gripe about the line-management system that can make a pile-up seem like survival of the pushiest. And, of course, the Payday lift at Park City Village.
But locals know to dodge that bullet by using the Town and Crescent lifts. That’ll get you a head start on your way to the fun stuff on Jupiter Peak. You’re welcome. – Jeremy Pugh

- DON’T MISS The history beneath the hill is as interesting as the snow on it. The guided Silver to Slopes Historic Mining Tour doubles as an introduction to the resort’s 7,000 acres as well as a fascinating history lesson.
- MUST DO Skiing rope-to-rope at the largest resort in the U.S., from the western boundary to McConkey’s, is a survey course in resort skiing. It will take most of the day but you can cap the journey with a whiskey at High West.
