You want a mattress that conforms very closely to your body. All versions of the TEMPUR-ProAdapt cradle the body, but the soft model hugs tightly as you sink into the mattress. Those who tend to feel most comfortable on the soft mattress are side sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds.
You prefer a balance of contouring and support. The medium all-foam model hugs the body but doesn’t sink as much as the soft version. This balance appeals to many side sleepers and couples who want a mattress with great motion isolation.
You’re looking for a mattress that offers even levels of conforming and support with a bit more bounce and edge support. Although still more contouring than most hybrids, this model has a springier feel than its all-foam counterpart.

Side Sleepers
Side sleepers can receive excellent support from the TEMPUR-ProAdapt Mattress, but it’s essential for them to choose the right model. Getting the proper balance of firmness and contouring allows side sleepers to maintain a healthy spinal alignment and avoid pressure buildup around the hips and shoulders.
In our testing, side sleepers under 130 pounds preferred the soft (3), medium (5), and medium hybrid (5) models. The plushest model was only the right fit for those who really like a deep hug and the feeling of sinking into the mattress.
Side sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 pounds were best supported by the medium (5) and medium hybrid (5). The firm (7) was by far the most effective for those over 230 pounds, since its firmness could resist excess sinkage.
Back Sleepers
Based on our testing, only certain models of the TEMPUR-ProAdapt deliver comfort and support to back sleepers. For example, the soft (3) ProAdapt was too plush for all of our back sleepers.
The firm (7) model is best for back sleepers over 130 pounds. These sleepers found that the softer versions of this mattress lacked firmness and failed to keep their spine in a neutral alignment. Even on the firmest model, some back sleepers over 230 will still find the mattress to be too plush.
Back sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds experienced solid support from the medium (5), medium hybrid (5), and firm (7) models. Among our team, personal firmness preferences were the deciding factor about which model felt best.
Stomach Sleepers
Stomach sleepers in our testing were nearly unanimous that the firm (7) model of the TEMPUR-ProAdapt was the best at keeping their spine properly supported.
When sleeping on your stomach, plush foams can permit too much sinkage around the stomach and hips. That sinkage can be even worse with contouring foams like TEMPUR memory foam.
For that reason, the firm (7) was preferred by stomach sleepers of every weight, and it was the only effective option for those over 130 pounds. Some stomach sleepers under 130 pounds said they also got sufficient comfort from the medium hybrid (5).

Motion Isolation

“If you have a bed partner who is constantly tossing and turning, the ProAdapt helps make sure you don’t feel vibrations from their every move.” – Mary
Motion isolation is a standout category for the TEMPUR-ProAdapt. Its high-end memory foam absorbs movement, keeping vibrations from spreading to the other side of the bed.
We found that motion isolation was strongest on the softer models and weakest in the hybrid, which has light bounce from the coils. Any of these should work well for couples, but people wanting top-tier motion isolation should select an all-foam model.
Pressure Relief

“Contouring on some of the ProAdapt models is intense. That can offer excellent pressure relief for pain points like the shoulders, lower back, and hips. But it can also be too much for some sleepers.” – Logan
Pressure relief is a strength of all the TEMPUR-ProAdapt models. Its ability to contour to the body lets the mattress give proportional support to the areas where your body needs it most.
However, your experience on the mattress will largely depend on your body type and sleep position. For many sleepers, the soft (3) and firm (7) models will be way too soft or hard. The models with mid-range firmness have the broadest appeal, but some sleepers may still find that there’s too much hug for optimal comfort and support.
Temperature Control

“If your experience is like mine, get ready to sweat, especially on the softer all-foam models. Tempur-Pedic has taken steps to reduce heat buildup, but this still isn’t the right fit for people who sleep hot.” – Brad
A drawback of the TEMPUR-ProAdapt is the tendency of TEMPUR foam to retain heat. The conforming foam presses against your skin, which can make you feel warm and clammy.
This effect is most evident on the soft (3) and medium (5) models. Temperature control is a bit better on the firm (7) and medium hybrid (5), but even those models may feel too warm if you tend to be a hot sleeper.
Edge Support

“While you always notice how memory foam compresses beneath you, it’s even more apparent around the perimeter. To me, it only felt really problematic on the softest model, but edge support is limited on most of the ProAdapt mattresses.” – Mary
The all-foam TEMPUR-ProAdapt Mattresses have below-average edge support regardless of firmness level. You’ll sink quite a bit when getting on and off the mattress. If you weigh more than 230 pounds or choose the soft (3) model, chances are you won’t feel very stable lying near the edges.
Edge support is slightly better for the firm (7) model and the hybrid, which benefits from innerspring coils. But if edge support is a priority for you, the ProAdapt may not be the best fit for your needs.
Ease of Movement

“There’s a big gap between the different ProAdapt models in terms of ease of movement. The softest all-foam models really restrict your movement, but it’s a bit easier to move on the bouncier hybrid and the firm all-foam mattress.” – Logan
The hug of the ProAdapt’s memory foam can become a barrier to movement in bed, especially on the softer models. The deeper you sink into memory foam, the more you may feel stuck.
Our testing team found that it was difficult to move on the TEMPUR-ProAdapt. With a bit of bounce, the hybrid scored better in this category, but it’s still harder to move on than many hybrids.
If you like the feeling of being hugged by your mattress, the restricted movement on the ProAdapt won’t be a big deal. But it may be a serious concern if you’re a combination sleeper or generally want to be able to move freely in bed.
Off-Gassing

“Because this mattress gets delivered without being compressed, there’s only a minor smell from the ProAdapt. It should fade away within 48 hours.” – Brad
The TEMPUR-ProAdapt causes much less off-gassing odor than many other foam mattresses. A major reason for this is that the ProAdapt doesn’t get shipped after being compressed and sealed in plastic. Instead, a delivery team brings the flat mattress to your home. This means that chemical smells can dissipate before the mattress is installed.
You may still detect a light odor from the new materials in the ProAdapt, but it will only last a couple of days at most.
Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-ProAdapt Mattress Construction Breakdown
The TEMPUR-ProAdapt is available in all-foam and hybrid designs. The all-foam model comes in a soft (3), medium (5), or firm (7) level of firmness. The hybrid’s firmness level is medium (5).
All versions of this mattress feature two layers of TEMPUR foam in the comfort system. These foams are renowned for the way they conform to the body and isolate motion. The top layer of TEMPUR foam is ventilated to enable better heat dissipation.
In the all-foam models, the support core is made of high-density polyfoam. In the hybrid, it is made with pocketed innerspring coils that contribute a degree of bounce.
All versions of this mattress are 12 inches tall and come with a stretchy fabric cover that can be removed and cleaned in any household washing machine and dryer.
The TEMPUR-ProAdapt costs considerably more than most memory foam and hybrid mattresses, but it’s not the most expensive mattress from Tempur-Pedic.
Although it has a luxury price-point, the performance of TEMPUR foams is worth the expense for some shoppers.
You can purchase the ProAdapt Mattress in any of the standard mattress sizes. It also comes in other sizes, including split king and split California king.
The TEMPUR-ProAdapt is available to shoppers in all 50 states. It is sold on Tempur-Pedic’s website and by many online and brick-and-mortar mattress stores.
Shipping
Tempur-Pedic provides free White Glove delivery of the ProAdapt Mattress to addresses within the contiguous 48 U.S. states. In most cases, the mattress arrives within two weeks.
A local delivery company will contact you in advance to schedule mattress installation. When they arrive, they’ll set up the mattress in the room of your choice.
For people in Alaska and Hawaii, there is a $600 charge for White Glove delivery, and it may take up to 6 weeks for the mattress to be delivered.
Additional Services
White Glove delivery doesn’t just include setup of the ProAdapt Mattress. If requested in advance, the delivery team can also haul away an old mattress at no extra charge.
Sleep Trial
The ProAdapt comes with a 90-night sleep trial. You are required to keep the mattress for 30 nights before you can request a return.
If you choose to return the mattress, Tempur-Pedic will coordinate pickup. You will receive a refund minus a $175 return fee and tax.
Warranty
Tempur-Pedic provides a 10-year limited warranty for the TEMPUR-ProAdapt Mattress. If your mattress has a defect, such as foam that splits, Tempur-Pedic will repair or replace the mattress. The only charge to you is for shipping costs. The warranty does not cover wear and tear or accidental damage.
