First-page header and footer • Choose View, Header and Footer • Click the Page Setup button, and click the Layout tab • Check the Different first page box, and click OK • Enter text for the header and footer • Close the Header and Footer toolbar

Odd- and even-page headers • Check the Different odd and even option on the Layout tab of the Page Setup dialog box • The header areas are identified as “Even Page Header” and “Odd Page Header” • The footer areas are identified as “Even Page Footer” and “Odd Page Footer”

Preparing for chapter numbers • Choose Format, Bullets and Numbering, and activate the Outline Numbered tab • Click Customize • Under the Number format, set Level to 1 • Verify that the Number style and Start at box contain the desired settings • Click More to display additional options • From the Link level to style list, select Heading 1 • Click OK
Including chapter numbers • Choose Insert, Page numbers to open the Page Numbers dialog box • Click Format • Check the Include chapter number box • From the Chapter starts with style list, select Heading 1 • Select a separator character • Click OK to close the Page Number Format dialog box • Click OK to close the Page Numbers dialog box
