Rules of Debate • Split into two sides: Republicans and Democrats • Each party is given 5 minutes per question asked. • Each party is allowed a3minute counter-argument • Party members can only speak when holding the “Speaking Gavel” • Coin toss to decide who goes first (alternate turn each question) • No interruptions from either side • Be respectful to each other • Any Questions?
Leadership Theory • What Leadership Style does each candidate portray? Give example(s) and explain the positive or negative aspects of having this leadership style. • Transactional - Leadership style is more reflective of “management”, with clearly defined rewards and punishment. • Participative - Leader involves followers and thereby shares ownership and gets collective buy-in. • Situational- Leader perceives drastic situation and acts accordingly • Transformational - Leaders establish themselves as role models by gaining followers’ trust and confidence.
Temperament • What Temperament do you think each candidate most closely relates with? Explain how this will positively or negatively affect their leadership. • Rational – Focused on problems, Independent • Artisan – Optimistic, Bold, Competitive • Guardian – Dependable, Stable Leader • Idealist – Enthusiastic, Inspirational
Judgment and Moral Issues/Courage • How does your candidate display good judgment and moral courage? Give specific examples. • Clarify a few of their critical values and how it will aid in their leadership. • Character • Character is tested when confronted with moral dilemmas • Moral courage • The bridge between talking ethics and doing ethics
Leading Change • How do you feel your candidate will effectively lead America better than the other candidate? • This could be supplemented with things like:-Benefits from your candidate's leadership style/experience/etc. to sort of guide the question away from the blunt "Why is your candidate better?
Global Understanding • Explain how your candidate shows a better global understanding for energy and the environment. Include policies that will be implemented upon installation in office. • Cutting Greenhouse Gas Emissions • Offshore Drilling • Fuel-Economy Standards • Renewable Energy • Bio-fuels • Clean Coal • Nuclear Energy
Global Understanding • Explain how your candidate shows a better global understanding when it comes to foreign policies/ international affairs. • Military budget • International Law/ UN • Guantanamo Bay/ Torture • Plan for Iraq • Afghanistan • Trade • Diplomacy relations with Iran
Economy • As you are aware, right now America is facing an economic recession. • Explain how your candidate’s position of the following issues will improve America’s economic situation • Dealing with the Mortgage Crisis • Taxes and individuals • Taxes and corporations • Federal Takeovers

Open Forum • Each side has five minutes to bring up one last argument to defend their candidate. • The opposing side gets five minutes to counter-argue.
