The Hukbong Bayan Laban sa mga Hapon, also known as "Huks", was a Communist guerilla group formed on March 29, 1942 in the Philippines to fight against the Japanese occupation during World War II. It was led by Luis Taruc and later evolved into an insurgency against the postwar administration of Manuel Roxas, carrying out attacks, raids, and ambushes. The Huks' surrender in 1954 after a large military operation marked the decline of the Communist insurgency in the Philippines.
