Final Thoughts on the Archie Sonic Reboot

Pre Introduction (This is an edited version of my previous review on issues 252 to 267. Most texts will remain the same as before.) Hi again, it's Pix. What you're reading this time is a final personal review on the entire Archie Sonic Reboot comics (excluding Universe). In this review, I'll give my final thoughts on the entire rebooted series*. I'll also be rating this from a scale of 1 to 7 Chaos Emeralds. With 1 being the worst and 7 being the best. *Again, I won't be explaining the actual plot. If I do, we'll be here for a very long time. Personal Backstory I've been a Sonic fan since I was a little kid, I watched the cartoons (on Netflix), played the games, but I never once touched the Archie comic series. It was still going on, and I could have easily grabbed an issue or two. But I never did. And I still regret that. But hey, Live and Learn am I right? So after asking for tips via a topic (thanks to all of those who gave the tips!), I began my Archie Sonic journey...by starting with the reboot! I was considering starting from the very beginning, but I didn't want to feel overwhelmed by the amount of issues I had to read. So I figured I started off small. So with all that said, let's get into my very poorly written thoughts on the Archie Sonic Reboot series. Lets do it to it! My Thoughts on the story The person who wrote this series was non-other than Ian Flynn himself. Now when it comes to Sonic, I'm quite familiar with Ian Flynn (I played Frontiers & SXSG), so I was expecting some good stuff. And I was right, the story was great. It did a good job on creating a new original plot with small connections to the previous one, which was good for new readers (like me), who have never read the Archie series before. The characterization, by my standards, was pretty on-point and I enjoyed reading the dialogue from each of the existing characters. The newer characters, like the Egg Bosses were nice additions to the cast of characters. The foreshadowing was very nice as well. Early in the series, Sonic inhaled some Dark Gaia energy from a gas sample created by Uncle Chuck. Since then, whenever Sonic would be in a stressful situation, they would make very subtle hints that the Werehog would soon make its appearance. Oh yeah, the Reboot series was an Unleashed adaptation (I should've mentioned that before). Speaking which, the Werehog's introduction was so sick. I was fully hyped up when I was reading! The ending (which is similar to Unleashed in a way), was great. It ended what was an incredibly well written arc and for real in my head, I was playing the Perfect Dark Gaia boss music while reading the final battle. The very last few issues were a small retelling of Sonic 1, 2, and CD. Issue 291 (canceled) being about 3&K. They were nice little issues that encouraged readers to play the original games. Illustrations What else can I say, they're great! I'm especially a fan of Evan Stanley's and of course Tyson Hesse's work on some of the issues. The covers are also nice to look at. (my favorite one) Conclusion Final thoughts? I really enjoyed this series and I now understand why so many fans adore these comics. I really look forward to going back and reading the previous 252 issues. It's unfortunate that this series got canceled. Final Rating 6/7 Chaos Emeralds Image Sources- Grabber Zone Archie Sonic: Reboot (#252-290) Werehog - Mobius Encyclopaedia
  3. Hi, I'm Pix. What you're reading now is a small personal review on the Archie Sonic Reboot comics from Issue 252, to issue 267. In this review, I'll give my thoughts on what I've read so far*. I'll also be rating this from a scale of 1 to 7 Chaos Emeralds. With 1 being the worst and 7 being the best. And without further ado, let's get started. *(I won't be explaining the actual plot. If I do, we'll be here for a long time. Cause when I talk about a plot, I take forever doing so.) Introduction (wait, so what was that before then?): Before we actually get started, let me give some background on why I'm reading the Archie Sonic Reboot comics (you may skip this part). I've been a Sonic fan almost all my life (since 2011 to be exact!), I watched the cartoons (on Netflix by the way), played the games, but I never once touched the Archie comic series. It was still going on, and I could have easily grabbed an issue or two. But I never did. And I still regret that. But hey, Live and Learn am I right? That's why I'm here today, to finally do the one thing I always wanted to do: read the Archie Sonic comics...out of order. Yea...if you haven't noticed, I'm starting with the reboot series (which is issues 252-290. i'm also gonna read the Sonic Universe (also reboot) from time to time). I won't touch the issues that occur before 'till later on (but I will trust me). My Thoughts on the story: Now when it comes to Sonic, I'm familiar with Ian Flynn (I've Sonic Frontiers & SXSG), so I was expecting some good stuff. And yeah, the story is great so far. It does a good job on creating a new original story not only for new readers (like me!) as well readers who have been reading since the very first issue. By my standards, the characterization is pretty on-point and I enjoy reading the dialogue from each character. Also the foreshadowing is very nice as well, especially with the Werehog. Since issue 254, they would make subtle hints when Sonic is in very stressful situations (Issues 257, 259, 262, & 263). I liked that a lot. Example: Image Above: Issue 254 Speaking which...the Werehog is so sick in this series! If you thought he was cool in Unleashed, you've got another thing coming! Image Above: Issue 265 Illustrations: What else can I say, it's great! I'm especially a fan of Evan Stanley's and of course Tyson Hesse work in these issues. Conclusion: Final thoughts? I really enjoy the Archie comics and I look forward to reading more in the future! By the way, sorry for such a long topic. I think I'll do a blog next time. FINAL RATING: 6/7 Chaos Emeralds
  4. So as a kid, I was fully aware of the existence of the Archie Sonic Comics. Unfortunately, little me at that time was too busy playing New Super Mario Bros Wii, so I never got to read them. But alas, I'm older and "wiser" and is now more committed to the Sonic Franchise. Due to this I want to start reading all, and I mean all of the comics of the Archie Sonic series. In other words, (without spoilers) is there anything I should know when diving into the comics? Like, what's the Pre/Post-Super Genesis Wave and stuff like that?
  5. With us being just a couple of months away from what is perhaps the second-most-interesting crossover between Batman and a bunch of anthropomorphic fighting animals, we now have our first peek at the first alternate cover of Issue #1, as posted by IDWSonicNews: This alternative cover comes from Ethan Young, a character designer and cover artist working across multiple publishers. This variant cover printed on cardstock will ship alongside the standard version on March 19, as will an as-yet-unrevealed second alternative cover by Thomas "TK" Kruckenberg. You can view the full solicitation, including the "A" version cover, over in our original news post. Sonic News Tips Credit: Shiny Gems Original Post Content: And here it is. The cover of the first issue of the Sonic X DC crossover has been revealed. Though I am not sure if it was revealed before, but it is nice that this has shown up. Here is the cover in question. Looks very nice. The Justice League in the left side and Sonic and his friends on the right. This will probably be interesting, that much is for sure. View full story

  11. "Long ago, Knuckles lost his father, Bow the echidna, along with the rest of his clan, to the talons of the Owl Tribe. Now, long after his adventures with Sonic are over, the last guardian of the Angel Island echidna clan must band together with old and new friends to save the world from the owls once more..." To fans of the old Knuckles comics, and fans of Knuckles and the chaotix in general.. what if there was a new fan comic about knuckles and the chaotix that was based on the games, and borrowed from the cartoons, Fleetway, and movies? With the help of a collaborating artist, I plan to release this as a full graphic novel at the rate of four pages biweekly starting early this fall and continuing for a full year until it's conclusion. I will both be posting the sets of four pages here every couple weeks on my account, and posting them over on Twitter under the name Mighty the Mobius historian. I hope you all enjoy the work we have planned and look forward to all you who are fans of Knuckles and is Merry Little band of Heroes enjoying our work. Thank you and have a good day. 12. For me, I personally love Aaron Hammerstrom, Evan Stanley, and of course good ol' Tracy Yardley. Evan Stanley is the most inspirational artist for me, and I always try to use hers as a basis for mines. It's really nice she gets the opportunity to help contribute to this awesome cause. Aaron Hammerstrom just makes the art that you think goes along with Sonic Rush, but if you look more closely, it's by far more unique. He makes the pupils smaller, but hey! They look good along with his style. Thomas Rothlisberger. I think Thomas Rothlisberger is my second favorite. He makes such good artwork you might find yourself tracing a printed comic panel. Tracy Yardley's art-style feels the most "at-home". He's been in this buissiness for a REALLY long time, and every time I see something about Archie, I can only think about Tracey Yardley. He's like Archie Sonic's father! There are some other artists I like. I like Natalie Haines art, it is more than EXCEPTIONAL. The shading, the effort put into those works is completely evident. The Trial by fire artwork with Amy and Tangle and Whisper and Jewel and the other campers evacuating is just only of many examples of what I mean. Nathalie Fourdraine is a really good painter, but I feel like she make TOO much art. Whenever you collect those volumes with four issues inside, usually you can find at least two through seven artworks in it. But I don't mean any offense. She is also an inspirational artist. Adam Bryce Thomas. Now, this is a bit controversial for me. I don't like how in every issue, every single panel of every issue that Adam works on, he somehow changes the ARTSTYLE. There are other good artists, like Abby Bulmer and Jamal Peppers who are really good too. So who are YOUR favorites?
  13. Hello , i'm currently reading IDW sonic , since i love both sonic and comics , i really like it , and (even if it's controversy and this guy get way too much hate for no reason , i actually really like Flynn's writing) , and i wanted to also discover archie comics , so i wanted to know if ian flynn run is a good entry point (i will ofc read the rest one day , bc even if some things looks fucking weird , i think there's a lot of interesting things to discover here.)
  14. Remember how one of the key additions to Sonic X Shadow Generations is hidden collectable Chao? Did you want to know how the chao got there and what they were doing in the meantime? It wasn't a question I was asking, but perhaps you were, and for those inquisitive individuals, SEGA has released yet another addition to the Fearless Year of Chao in "Sonic X Shadow Generations X Chao." The 10-page manga tells the trials and tribulations of the heroic and attention grabbing Sonic Chao, and lonesome but dutiful Shadow Chao as they guide their brethren to safety during the Time Eater incident. You can catch them all posted in this lengthy thread. The comic was written by Ian Flynn, though the adorable art by Misa Shion and Min Ho Kim takes center stage in this otherwise textless romp. It's a delightful look at the worlds of the game through the eyes of two unlikely friends. Suffice to say, their hedgehog counterparts probably won't show the same comradery by the end of their adventure. Original Post Content: View full story

  16. I was wanting to ask for this, mainly because i´m a great fan of the Sonic style and art in general, as i´m also practicing a little about that, i am in search of the most great oficial design on the Sonic franchise to learn about that.
  17. We've talked about it enough times on this website, but now the day is finally upon us - Issue #131 of Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog comic is out now in all good US bookstores. Go out and buy it! This latest edition takes you on a turbulent trip through to the future as the new 'Mobius: 25 Years Later' series kicks off... but things are also happening in the present, as Sonic and friends try to stage a pre-emptive strike on the Eggman Empire before their world is wiped out. Click here to check out past solicits for the book - and let us know what you think of the new comic.
  18. It's comics solicitations day, and we have another bumper double-issue reveal to share with you. This time around, we have spoiler information for Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog issues #134 and #135. Hot dog! 19. Due to a combination of Sonic the Comic Con and my own laziness, Part 3 has been delayed for a bit, for now, enjoy Part 2. *dresses up as a vampire and emerges from behind the sofa with a scary put on deep voice* Hello my children! It’s Halloween! And what better way to celebrate the night of ghosts and goblins by gathering around the campfire to share a scary story, today we continue our tale of conspiracy and horror as we look at a scary tale from the pages of Sonic the Comic. http://www.sonicstadium.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/knuckleswicker5.png Come closer as we turn the pages of Knuckles Village of the Damned Part 2! And be sure to check out Part 1 if you have not already done so… we’ll be waiting! Knuckles: Village Of The Damned Part 2 We begin as we left off, Knuckles awakens, confused as he spots a strange parade in the streets below where a young woman is tied to a huge stone being led through the streets. As she begs for help, take note of her clothing why don’t you? And the costumes that the villages are wearing, again we see a small homage to classic horror, as in the previous issue, The Wicker Man makes another appearance. http://www.sonicstadium.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/knucklesvillagewolf.png There is one nice inclusion here on the first page too, when Knuckles dives through the window, the artist has included a large full moon behind knuckles which although technically it’s not possible for Knuckles to be in this position with the moon directly behind him. I suspect this is another homage to something, not entirely sure what since the image of a hero or a defiant image in front of a large moon is used to much, whilst I want to say ‘An American Werewolf In London” this image of the moon overshadowing a character is used a lot over a wide range of media, Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolfman, even other comic book heroes such as Batman have used it. https://www.sonicstadium.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/knucklesvillagewicker2.png As Knuckles rescues the girl we see in the background one of the villagers, another homage to The Wicker Man, you may have noticed this individual with the sun mask like face, he bears a striking resemblance to Christopher Lee’s character, Lord Summerisle. Don’t believe me? See for yourself. This character shall play an interesting role later in this story, keep that in mind for part 3. With Knuckles and the girl on the run, they take refuge inside a barn, whilst no direct parallel here, it reminds me personally of a scene from a zombie movie, in which the heroes are trapped in a remote farmhouse with the zombie hoard outside. Or something like the movie Critters which also features a similar looking barn early in the movie, and least we forget something scary like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. http://www.sonicstadium.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/knuckleswicker2.png After some time resting, Knuckles is woken up by the angry villagers, how did they find him? In his sleep the girl told them where he was hiding. We now discover that the girl was in on the whole scheme, whilst the plot is a direct parallel to The Wicker Man, as Howie discovers that the girl he’s been trying to save is in on the conspiracy and he is actually to be made the sacrifice, there is another small reference here. Lots of old horror movies had a classic ‘angry mob.’ Most famously found in Frankenstein, what characteristics do these mobs have? Grab your pitchforks and sharp farming tools and head towards the monster my children. http://www.sonicstadium.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/knuckleswicker3.png In a piece of dialogue almost identical to that of the Wicker Man, we discover that the villagers plan to sacrifice Knuckles in order to improve their crops. And as with Howie in The Wicker Man, Knuckle’s pleas and protests fall on death ears as he’s lead to the Wicker Egg. https://www.sonicstadium.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/knuckleswicker4.png And so Part 2 ends my children, will unlike Howie, will Knuckles escape his fate in the Wicker Egg? Or will he too face the fires and burn? What other references and homages will be found inside the pages of part 3? Join me next time as we find out. When will part 3 come? Very soon, but wait? It’s not Halloween month any more you say? Well my children, at the end of some stories… Halloween never ends! Ah-HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Happy Halloween! View full story
  20. Stories in this franchise can be a bit hit or miss. Sometimes this can be the result of incompetent writing. Other times it's the result of meddling executives. It can even be a combination of the two, or neither. Either way, over the course of Sonic's 30+ year history, it has told many a story, and like the franchise's history itself, have had their ups and downs, sometimes being the best thing in a game, film, T.V. series, or comic, and sometimes being the worst. And above all else, the idea of what's the best and worst will vary from person to person, based on they're interests, what they're looking for in a story, etc. So people of Sonic Stadium, what do you consider the best and worst stories that Sonic has put out? Include your reasoning, and maybe, if you feel like it, even a bit of history/context that led to the perfecter or catastrophe of a story. As per the usual, being in school, I don't have much time to write my own opinion regarding the topic, but maybe I'll come back later to add my thoughts. I will say this though: the Metal Virus arc in the IDW comics was certainly interesting. Never would I have ever thought Sonic would cover the idea of a zombie apocalypse, let alone to this extent and quality.

    Sonic Shower Thoughts

I've seen these pop up on the internet from time to time, with there being enough of a presence to even warrant an r/Showerthoughts subreddit on, well, Reddit. For those unfamiliar with the term, Collins Dictionary best puts it as, "a sudden idea that occurs to a person during an unconnected mundane activity." An example of this would be when something just "hits" you, or you begin to contemplate something, while taking a shower. Therefore, a "shower" thought. I've had some Sonic related shower thoughts pop into my mind before, with a lot of my Sonic Stadium topics tending to be these. In fact, this topic was a shower thought in and of itself. So, as per the topic question, I was wondering what some of your Sonic shower thoughts were? They could be anything from headcanons, to sudden realizations of something you've never noticed before, etc. Any and all ideas. These thoughts could be either ones you've thought of in the past, and/or or any that you just thought of while reading this topic. Maybe even the next time you've had such an idea, you could jot it down here. And again, these don't necessarily had to have conjured up in your mind while in the shower, just anytime during your daily life. With that said, have at it!
  22. As I finish up my daily homework for the night and get ready to close down the fort, I figured I'd post an idea/thought that came to my mind before I forgot about it. There have been many interpretations of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise over the years across several forms of media. From the likes of the Archie comics and the SatAM cartoon telling ongoing, more serious stories, to something as wacky as the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon, or as humorous and meta as the Sonic Boom subseries. Of course, even though the different deviations of Sonic can be categorized, long running series themselves have had a habit of being thematically different depending on the writers, management, etc. The games themselves can be used as an example of this. In the span of over a year, we went from something like Sonic and the Black Knight, with its more genuine telling of a story that has a grasp on its characters and even tries to deliver a moral, to something like Sonic Colors, a more simple, straightforward story, that's more "colorful" and "happy," and sometimes has a tendency to not take things seriously. The aforementioned Archie comics can also be cited as an example of this. The series started out with more humorous/goofy/wacky one off stories, to a more serious over arching plot, that soon be injected with politics, romance, and all sorts of drama, including high stakes like permanent death. And from there, the comics' tone would continue to change throughout the 2000's, until landing on a somewhat consistent tone that involved a better balance of light heartedness and more tension filled moments. Because of these differing changes to how things like the plot and characters are handled, many have their own opinions and views as to how said characters and plots, should be handled. Even pushing stories and characterization aside, when you come down to the core aspect of the franchise, the games, even then, the game play of the game will constantly shift between differing playstyles and the like. You'll go from a game that's more fast paced platformer, to one that requires more input and thinking. They'll go from a more exploration based playstyle, to a more linear one. With all of that said, my question to you is, what do you consider "peak" Sonic? Or rather, what do you want the most out of this franchise? You may choose to respond to any and as many of the things that I have listed as you want. If you want to tell me about how characters should be treated, go for it. If you want to tell me what your preferred idea of Sonic game play is, you can say that to. Any of this can be in regards to the comics, shows, whatever. Heck, you can think touch up on stuff that I haven't mentioned, as although I tried to incorporate as many things as I can think of (whether your more of a story guy, or if you care more about the games in particular), there's still more that can be discussed. Maybe you'd like to touch upon what music you'd like to hear from the games, movies, etc Talk about whatever comes to mind. Is this a bit disorganized and unfocused? Perhaps, but like I said, it was just a thought that came to mind and wanted to get out before I forgot it, so I could hear everyone's say/input/whatever.
