100 Things To Do Before You Die

100 things to do before you die

Whether you were inspired by the YES man, felt like making a change in your life or want to tick off a bucket list experience, we all have a set of goals and things we would love to achieve before we die. The most common experience on people’s list is to swim with dolphins, while a surprisingly large amount of people would love to swim with sharks (in my twenties that was tempting, it’s less so as I get older). Have a read through my list and see how many you have ticked off yourself, I’m on 48 so far.

Below is my personal list of 100 things to do before you die…how many have you completed?

1) Go White Water Rafting

This is arguably my favourite activity in the world! I get so much joy out of white water rafting, but I have to recommend you go for a harder rapids, the easy ones do become a little tame as you go.

The adrenaline rush you get when riding the rapids is immense, while you can choose a level that suits you, potentially progressing if you enjoy it. Plus, being something you do as a group of four, you all feel closer afterwards and have a fun story to share when home.

When you book white water rafting, there will be a guide on the boat who will direct you and instruct when to sit in and hold on and when to paddle, so you don’t have to worry about anything.

2) Climb A Mountain

Yellow Mountains
by Chi King

Not a hill, I mean a full blown mountain and I respect everyone that ticks this off. It is an amazing achievement that they will be able to talk about for the rest of their lives. Having said that, I would avoid Everest at the moment, with some terrible stories coming back from the mountaintops.

You could try Mount Fuji in Japan or Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. We went to the base of Mount Fuji but didn’t build enough time into our plan for a full climb. I love going hiking with my mate Matt and this is high on my personal list.

As well as being a great life experience, you’d also be doing one hell of a workout, ticking off a lot of steps on the pedometer and the uphill/downhill will elevate your heart rate.

3) Go On A Safari

I ticked this one off in 2019, going on a tour of the Maasai Mara in Kenya, a truly mind blowing experience that allows you to get up close and personal with the incredible animals. Wildlife should play a huge role in your bucket list and everyone should have an African safari in there.

The absolute thrill of spotting lions lounging in the shade, elephants roaming in herds and witnesseing a Cheetah’s lightning fast sprint is something that can’t be captured in words alone. The birds chirping above you in the trees and the distant roar of a lion definitely makes you feel immersed in the experience.

4) Build A Website

Well I can tick that one off! You shouldn’t be afraid to build a website, it is incredibly easy, but if you do want some advice then feel free to get in contact. I now run around 5 different sites which have all brought me huge joy (not to mention free holidays, which doesn’t go amiss).

Whether it’s a small business you would like to launch or a blog on your favourite subject, you should give this a try and it may open doors you never thought were possible. The first step, after choosing what the site will be about, is finding an available domain name (much harder than you think) and then getting hosting setup.

5) Trek Machu Picchu

see machu picchu

I was in a stressful job, I wanted out, so I booked a one way flight to Peru! A week later I was trekking up mountains to get to Machu Picchu, easily one of the greatest experiences of my life. I would strongly recommend this to anyone with a sense of adventure and wanting to break from the normal travel locations or holiday resorts.

There are multiple options when it comes to the Inca Trail, you can get an adventure tour taking around 3-4 days (which I did), an intense mountainous option which takes 5 days or even just the quick train from Cusco. You don’t have to book it in advance, I booked and paid for mine from the hostel, with a representative coming each day to take bookings.

6) Tubing In Asia

This is most popular in Laos, however the laws and availability have changed a little as there were a few incidents, with people getting too drunk drinking at the bars along the side as they floated along. The Nam Song River provides a perfect route to float along, with bars dotted along the riverside.

7) Go Zorbing

For most people, this will involve rolling down a hill in a giant inflatable ball. However, as I had to run the Bubble Football World Cup, where I had to put on a zorb around 1,000 times, I’m going to personally tick this one off. If you’re looking to do zorbing, the UK is a great place to give it a go, setup in almost every city.

8) Scuba Dive

If you want to do it in the best way possible then it would have to be at the barrier reef. Having said that, anywhere in the world with a coral reef would be cool to dive at, it’s just about getting your padi qualification first. Most beach resorts that offer this will run training programmes if you’re there for a few days.

9) Shoot A Gun

clay pigeon shooting

This sounds like a weird one to recommend, considering I’m against guns, but it is so much fun! I first did this in America (of course), however I also shot a shotgun in Budapest. If you head over to Cambodia, the options get a little weird but the guns get bigger.

10) See The Great Barrier Reef

Probably the biggest tourist attraction to Australia, this should be on everyone’s list, although make sure not to damage anything when you visit and don’t try to take anything with you. It’s sad to think in years to come it could look a whole lot smaller.

11) Go Zipwiring

Zip line

This one can be done in pretty much any country around the world, so your options are open. If you don’t have a huge budget, you can look to see if there is one in a city nearby. Then again, the views might not be as spectacular as doing it through a jungle.

12) Fly A Helicopter/Plane

Helicopter Ride

These are surprisingly cheap to book, often listed as gift vouchers for birthdays or corporate presents. My fear of heights would certainly kick in, but you will be achieving something truly spectacular.

13) Drive A Supercar

Another item you will find under voucher gift sites, you can visit a track for the day and drive a very expensive car very quickly. I guess for myself I need to get my actual driving license first…Yes, I don’t have a license yet.

14) Throw A Tomato At La Tomatina

This Spanish festival is down as one of the most bizarre in the world by a long shot. You have to squeeze the tomato before throwing it, so it doesn’t hurt anyone. Taking place once a year in Bunol on the 28th August, this will leave you red in the face.

15) Ride A Horse

I did this once, only once, but it was in Texas on a ranch with some cowboys, so I feel happy I did it in the most cool way. Weirdly my fear of heights started kicking in once I was up there, not something I expected!

16) Spend A Night In An Igloo Village

The real deal is Kakslauttanen, based in Norway and is fast becoming one of their biggest tourist attractions for honeymoons or loved up couples. Of course, I’m sure there are cheaper alternatives, but if you want to live the dream then here it is.

17) See The Northern Lights

You can actually double up on the last point if you’re lucky, as Norway is a great place to see the Aurora, however most people I know have gone to Iceland, so they can relax in a hot spring while looking up at the Northern Lights.

18) Go Husky Sledding

OK, you can definitely tick the last 3 points in one holiday (triple threat), as husky sleds are used to transport people to hard to reach cold destinations, wtihout the issues many cars will face. The most common places you can book this are in Norway, Sweden and Finland.

19) Learn To Sail

River Boat Cruise

Point of sail, port, stern, helm, keel, jibe, these terms mean nothing to me, but you could be in the know if you took some sailing classes. You can book these at a decent price, especially when compared to buying yourself a boat.

20) Roadtrip Across Route 66

This one was slightly out of our way and our targeted destinations when road tripping in America, but we took some misdirection’s so we could tick it off. I think you can be happy if you have done a road trip anywhere with mates on a long path, it’s more about the connection and the joy of feeling free.

21) Learn To Speak Another Language Fluently

I have tried, oh I have tried, there is something incredibly embarrassing about being English, as we have absolutely no language skills, we barely speak our own language. I spent a few months in South America trying to learn Spanish, at the end all I knew was that I was a gringo.

22) Attend A Major Sporting Event

The World Cup, Olympic Games, The Super Bowl, Wimbledon, it doesn’t matter what sport you’re into, everyone should embrace the experience of watching a live match at a great venue in a great tournament at some point in their lives. Many Londoners can happily say they ticked this off after the Olympics, but I was away, damnit. Therefore the World Cup will always be my aim.

23) Drive along the Great Ocean Road in Australia

I’ve already mentioned a road trip along Route 66, however the views along that road certainly don’t offer such picturesque views as the Great Ocean Road. It has become a ticklist item for Australia, popular with young and old alike, as long as you have a driving license or know someone who does.

24) Drink too much at Oktoberfest

This one has been on my personal list for about a decade, but something else has always come up, especially given the time being close to my birthday, however I’m pretty sure this one will be ticked in the next couple of years. My liver won’t like me for it, but there are Oktoberfest parties going on all over Germany, with the biggest in Munich.

25) Drive on the autobahn

smallest car in the world

I’m seriously screwed with several of these, as I don’t have a driving license, but the autobahn with its relaxed laws on driving limits means this one is hugely popular for boy racers. There is a surprisingly low amount of crashes, due to the fact fast drivers don’t have to constantly slow down, maybe something we should learn from over here in the UK.

26) Visit Halong Bay

vietnam-halong-bay

If you’ve seen the images, then you’ll understand why I describe it as an image from the Pirate lego box, a truly spectacular sight to see. This is by far the number one thing to do in Vietnam.

27) See A Legendary Musician

The Rolling Stones, Muse, Led Zeppelin, whatever your music taste, you should see someone who changed music forever. We’re talking the top stars, that your kids and grandchildren will talk about. I’ve met a number of them, but I haven’t seen too many great ones live, perhaps the biggest being Green Day.

28) Walk On The Great Wall Of China

Great Wall Of China
by Colin Capelle

I’m not expecting you to pace along the entire wall, considering it can be seen from space! However a quick walk along the Great Wall of China would be a brilliant story to tell people back home, not to mention some great photos as well.

29) Look After An Elephant

elephant

Whether you go to Thailand, Cambodia or Kenya, there are elephant sanctuaries, where you can wash and feed them. Just don’t try to ride them, this causes them a huge amount of pain and is exploited by people trying to get money from tourists.

30) Swim Alongside A Sea Turtle

I’ve been in many oceans where they should be, but I just haven’t had the luck to swim alongside one. It is still the dream, while looking at other people’s pictures really gives you FOMO. It’s the ultimate travel blogger photo shot.

31) Laugh The Whole Day At Edinburgh Festival

I did this at the young age of 18 and I would love to do it again. Whether you book the big name comedians or just fill into a pub, there are shows on from midday till midnight each day. Your jaw will certainly hurt after all the laughter, that’s a promise.

32) Become The Boss

Become The Boss

Working your way up the career ladder can be stressful, especially at the start, but once you become the boss it will all feel worth it. Whether you go in alone and start your own business, or rise up internally to head up a department, this should be a key part of your list of things to do before you die, even if it isn’t quite as fun as some on this list.

I know so many people that fear being a manager. I can honestly say I love it. It is stressful as you learn how to balance doing your tasks while training others and guiding them to do a role perfectly. But once they’ve learned, your life becomes a lot easier and you can focus more on strategy and less on the day-to-day tasks.

33) Eat Fondue

I mean, it’s cheese, what else do I need to say? I don’t have a sweet tooth like most others, my food addiction is all around cheese, therefore this might not make it onto everyone’s list, but if a pot of melted cheese doesn’t make you drool then there must be something wrong with you, unless you’re lactose intolerant.

34) See The Giants Causeway

While many people recognise the sight, they are often surprised to find out it is based in Northern Ireland. This absolute beauty is just a short trip for us based in England, therefore it feels criminal that I’ve never been. There are plenty of walking tours here, but be careful as it can be slippy when wet.

35) Drink A Guinness In Dublin

Guinness

Forget what you think about the taste of Guinness, it has to be said that it tastes so much better when in Dublin. I’m honestly not just saying that, it is a world apart from what we can normally get in the UK, but I have no idea why. It’s just so much creamier, plus you can visit the brewery for a full on experience and try a pint on the top floor.

36) Ride A Motorbike

There is something both petrifying and exhilarating about getting on a motorbike. Sure, they are death machines, but damn they look cool. There is something rebellious we associate with them, in the media, on our TV shows and in famous figures throughout our childhood. Just to experience it once is enough to take it away as a great experience.

37) Drive A Quad Bike

My first experience of riding a quad bike was in Sharm El Sheikh, however I later joined TheStagCompany where this became a regular activity while creating content for the website, therefore I’m maybe Quadded out. One trick is to go slower than the rest of the group at the back, so you have to catch up and push the pedal to the metal!

38) Jet Ski

An ideal activity while in a hot exotic location, jet skiing allows you to tear over waves at a rapid pace, feeling the wind in your face and no fear if you were to fall off.

39) Learn To Surf

surfing in weligama

OK, you don’t need to become a master at this, but just to take a lesson or have a crack at surfing is enough. I can’t say I’m great at it, considering we live a fair way off California, the Brighton sea never quite makes it above freezing. But surfing is the definition of cool and looks so much fun.

40) Kayak A River/Lake

kayaking

I have done plenty of kayaking in the sea, but I placed this one on the list specifically around a river/lake, as it is a very different experience, carrying you along as you get to see various new scenes as you go. Not always easy without a car available, this is a brilliant experience that you can try all over the country or abroad.

41) Paintballing

Running around fields and pretending your in battle is something we do from a young age and paintballing is just us refusing to grow up, it’s great! Just remember not to pick up loose balls from the ground, it always jams the gun and then you’re left open and ready to get hit from all sides.

42) Take A Hot Air Balloon Ride

I feel like the fear of heights in me would stop me at the last moment, but I’m determined to go on a hot air balloon ride. Whether it’s a once in a lifetime viewpoint such as on a safari over Kenya or just sticking close to home, the ending result is the same, an unbelievable view and a smile that won’t fade. Plus, this isn’t quite as scary as skydiving or bungee jumping.

43) Go Karting

You don’t have to be a petrol head to enjoy go karting, it’s a great activity which seems to be oddly adopted by stag parties. This is a great activity to do with a group of friends, potentially for a birthday party.

44) Shower Under A Waterfall

You don’t need to completely wash yourself off, but just to get under a flowing waterfall and splash the hair is cool enough. I’ve done this in a few locations with small waterfalls and it always leaves you thinking ‘I need to remember this moment when I’m stressed or annoyed’, there is just something tranquil about it.

45) Stay On A Remote Island

Maldives Islands
by Nattu

I’m not saying you need to wash up on a deserted island and spend your time building a raft, but to stay on a highly remoted island and relaxing on the beach is incredibly cool. There are so many around, from the Indian Ocean to the Caribbean, you have your choice of options.

46) See The Iguazu Falls

You can (and should) see it from both the Brazil and Argentina side, as they offer very different views that can’t be compared. You can also get a helicopter ride over the Iguazu Falls, helping you to tick off two items on your list of things to do before you die.

47) Dance At Rio During Carnival

rio-carnival

Just to make it along to Rio Carnival would be enough, you don’t have to bust out your dance moves, but I’m assuming it will happen naturally when you hear the music playing and everyone dancing so freely.

48) Spend New Years Drinking Pina Colada’s Abroad

new-years-eve

This might be slightly personal, as I’m used to growing up in cold England, where I could only dream of spending the largely disappointing night of New Year’s Eve somewhere a bit more exotic with a tasty drink in hand. Of course, feel free to adapt Pina Colada to your cocktail of choice.

49) Learn To Play A Musical Instrument

Van Halen Guitar

Piano, the drums, violin, guitar, whatever your weapon of choice is, you can pick and set out a plan to learn it over the next year. I’ve had a crack at the piano, guitar and saxophone, but I’ve given them all up along the way, which annoys me.

50) Sleep Under The Stars

stars

It could be staying in the igloo village of Kakslauttanen or star gazing in Egypt, either way you should camp up and just stare up at the stars as they twinkle above. It’s also quite interesting to learn some of the constellations.

51) Spend Christmas In New York

ice skating in new york

New Yorkers know how to truly celebrate Christmas! New York is great all year round, but there is something magical about visiting during the festive period, with the giant Christmas tree, the ice skating rinks and mulled wine in every bar.

You get to see all the famous landmarks in a slightly different light, scenes which have captivated us through hundreds of movies throughout our childhood.

52) Go Skiing

Hitting the slopes is an activity no longer just for the wealthy, there are highly affordable packages available all over the world, however you may find yourself in the bar a few too many times once you’re exhausted from skiing.

I’ve never actually ticked off skiing, it’s something quite a few people I know are obsessed with, but I just felt the idea of breaking an arm while on holiday wasn’t too tempting, therefore I always picked somewhere a bit warmer.

53) Make A Video Go Viral

There is something exhilarating and addictive about watching your video or post go viral. It’s hard to explain, but you watch the numbers go up and the media jump on the story, leading to a huge surge in dopamine. People no longer get 15 minutes of fame once in their lives, it seems to come across slightly more regularly now.

54) Act On A Big Stage Or Make A Big Presentation

UK Agency Awards Tom Bourlet

It could be talking at a conference, presenting to a big company or acting on stage, you should ignore that fear factor inside your mind and take to the stage. If it doesn’t scare you, it’s not worth doing.

I used to want to be an actor, I studied at a drama college in Ealing and joined the drama society at Uni, taking part in plays, but it’s not something that tempts me as much nowadays.

55) Whale Watching

It can sometimes be unsuccessful, in fact often it can be downright frustrating, but if you do manage to see a whale then it will blow your mind. These huge creatures of the water will make you feel modest and humble.

56) Water Ski / Wakeboarding

Wakeboarding

I’d even sneak knee boarding into this category if you don’t quite progress to the two above, but they are great fun. The important thing to remember is to lock your arms in, it has a hell of a pull and as long as you don’t allow your arms to fly forward then it is actually quite easy.

57) Shark Cage Diving

Shark siams ocean world

These magestic creatures are being killed off at a rapid pace and they might not be around in 50 years time. Sure, they might scare the hell out of you, but doesn’t that make it even more tempting? No? Just me then. You can do shark cage diving in South Africa or Australia, or in fact most locations where they have big sharks, but these are the two most common and reliable.

58) See A Glacier

Vatnajokull Glacier

A great sight to see and a brilliant activity while on holiday in Iceland, Norway or Finland. In fact, you can see glaciers all over the world, but the three previously mentioned nations do offer a ‘wow factor’ with theirs.

59) Visit Stone Henge

Stone Henge
Creative Commons License photo credit: gmmail

I’ve lived not more than a 1 hour drive away virtually my whole life and I’ve never visited. I’m guilty of this as I’ve heard it’s a bit of a disappointment, with no tourism really pushed and it looking quite dirty, more something you look out at while driving past, but I think it has to make the list as it is such a mystery.

60) Cheese Rolling at Cooper’s Hill

I’m incredibly happy to say I went to the Cheese Rolling event, however I’m also very happy to say I didn’t run down the hill, I was merely a spectator. Nothing prepares you for how steep the hill is, you can’t even properly sit down, as you’re constantly slightly sliding down. I would 100% recommend this activity to anyone and everyone.

61) Visit Tibet

Tibet is located just south of China and is home to the Tibetan monks, while it is known as one of the most spiritual places in the world.

The mountainous viewpoints you will have are incredible, albeit you will have to practice your hiking skills beforehand.

The Himalayan region has a difficult political situation, where they’re battling for their independence while China tries to stake a claim over the land.

62) Take A Cruise

eating on a cruise ship

I explained to Raquel that I wanted to take a cruise and she couldn’t understand how anyone under the age of 60 could ever consider this an option.
I then showed here images of these huge ships, complete with a waterpark, cinema, bowling alleys and food galore and she was won over. In fact, it might be the unlimited drinks at the bars that could have been the pivotal factor.

Whether you go on a Cruise and Maritime trip or a Disney adventure, I’d make sure to have a read of my list of things to know before taking your first cruise.

63) Do The Tango In Argentina

People love to dance in Argentina! Seriously, in the evenings the streets would be coated with people dancing in public. This always feels very alien to someone from England, where we all have a stick up our ass, but I was impressed and it helped me to feel free and open to look silly in public.

You can also book yourself a dancing class while in Buenos Aires, which is certainly a top activity to try in Agentina.

64) Watch The World Cup In The Host Country

Watching it in the pub is always so intense, as everyone rallies together, putting aside their club loyalties to cheer on the Three Lions. But to win the World Cup, that’s something we dare to dream of in England.

On the other hand, attending a big sporting event in person in the host country is amazing and I got to watch Spain win the Euro’s in 2008. The entire country was going crazy, cars beeping, people drinking and laughing together, it was an amazing sight and I couldn’t help but feel a hint of jealousy.

65) Take A Trip Across The Amazon

The Amazon is home to numerous creates and plants that will bring out the traveller in you.

I can highly recommend the Pampas tour in Rurrenabaque, where I got to see anacondas, alligators and piranhas.

66) Bathe In A Hot Spring

This is an activity that can be ticked off in numerous countries around the world, with some of the most amazing hot springs being present in either Japan or Iceland, offering two very different cultural experiences.

There are numerous health benefits matched to bathing in a natural thermal spring. Whether you believe them or not is down to you, but the relaxing nature of bathing in them will certainly make your day. They also make for great photos.

67) Float In The Dead Sea

The Dead Sea has gained a strong reputation for visitors looking to float thanks to the high salt content of the water, making it virtually impossible to swim.

You won’t be bumping into any fish or marine life, as the high salt content makes it too toxic for them to live here.

If you’re based in the USA and this one seems too far to tick off, you can try floating in the Great Salt Lake in Utah.

68) See An Active Volcano

El Misti Volcano
Creative Commons image by D-Stanley

This is an exciting adventure, albeit it will leave you nervous if staying overnight nearby. I remember visiting Pompeii when I was a teenager, both my sisters were almost in tears as they were so nervous it would pop at any time, so it’s maybe not the best idea if you have little ones who could freak out, but I had a great time!

There are so many options to consider, such as Mount Aso in Japan, Mount Etna in Italy or Arenal in Costa Rica.

69) Sleep In A Haunted House Or A Castle

I’m caught with these two, as they both should be ticked off, but I didn’t want to set them as two different ticklist items. Let’s face it, staying in a haunted house can be debatable, whereas a castle can easily be booked.

The UK is spoilt with castles, albeit it many aren’t available to book, so you might want to look a little bit further afield. The Castello di Pavone in Torino or Kasteel Wurfeld in Maaseik are interesting European options. If you want to stay in the UK, you might want to try Swinton Park in Yorkshire or Ruthin Castle in Wales.

70) Go To New Zealand And See Where Lord Of The Rings Was Set

Anyone that has seen the movie will have been wowed by the incredible scenes, with gorgeous mountainous scenery stretching for miles, with not a house in sight.

It’s a far cry different to the city life back home. You can actually directly book yourself onto a Lord Of The Rings and Hobbit tour package, which takes you to all of the famous spots, so you can re-enact a scene for a photo.

71) Go Sandboarding

I’m not going to lie, I was nervous at first and instead chose to lie down on the board, which most people actually recommend to avoid injuries. However, after a few rides down the dunes, I opted to stand up and loved the buzz!

I tried sandboarding in Huacachina, however this activity can be done in countries all over the world, as long as you have some dunes to ride down.

72) Swim With Dolphins

There is a caveat to this challenge, I’m talking about wild dolphins. Don’t support one of those unethical companies that puts dolphins in a swimming pool and makes you hold onto their fins. I shamefully did this back in the day and now regret it.

I did however get the chance to swim with wild pink dolphins while in Bolivia, plus I also helped to save a pilot while while near Miami, both of which were mind blowing experiences.

73) Go To A Christmas Market

vienna christmas market

I’m keeping this open as it can be done anywhere, however Germany is the most famous location for a festive market.

If you live close to London, you can head to Winter Wonderland, which has plenty of rides and tasty treats, not to mention ice sculptures. There was a Brighton Christmas market, but it was awful, definitely not something I would recommend.

74) See A Tiger up Close

tiger

I’m not talking about in a zoo, I’ve always loved the idea of seeing a tiger up close in the wild. I don’t mean so close that I lose an arm, but it would be amazing to see a tiger in the Bandhavgarh national park in India. Another option is the Sunderbans tiger reserve in India.

75) Go To A Drive In Movie

I thought these were something from the past, merely seen in movies set in the USA, however when I went to the states I found these were actually real and still in existence! Obviously, it helps being in an area where you don’t have much rain, so England is ruled out.

76) Find Your Way Through Longleat

hippo

This is the number one safari in the UK and will allow you to see plenty of animals up close, from meerkats to lions. They also have cheetahs, rhinos, elephants, zebras and plenty more.

77) Party In New Orleans Through Mardi Gras

I loved visiting New Orleans, a city that parties hard Monday-Sunday. New Orleans is the home to Jazz, poker, cotton candy and the Blues. It’s also home to the wild parties of Mardi Gras.

The cultural blend in place in New Orleans means you will be able to try numerous different dishes with different origins.

The French Quarter is home to a large number of jazz bars, allowing you to listen to live music.

78) Swim With Pigs

What was that? Oh, you heard me right! If you were to head over to Big Major Cay in the Bahamas, you will find Pig Beach, where pigs take to the sea each day for a casual swim.

These animals are friendly and have starred in photos alongside some of the biggest superstars in the world, not that they’d have a clue who they are.

How these pigs came to the Bahamas is still buried in myth, but they don’t seem to mind you swimming right up to them.

79) Ride A Gondola In Venice

Arguably the most romantic scene from any movie, alongside a restaurant meal with the Eiffel Tower in the background (on my list as one of the worst experiences), riding a gondola will set you back around 100 euro’s, so it’s not cheap.

It does however offer a unique way to see all the historic buildings up close, while there are so many canals in Venice that this is actually a useful way to explore away from the crowds.

80) Go To The Galapagos Islands

Located just off Ecuador in South America, a trip to the Galapagos Islands can add up quite a bit. In fact, I was very nearby, but I opted for a cheaper package and went to a different island that also contained plenty of animals.

97% of the island is a national park, while the island has active volcanoes, meaning you’ll tick two items off from my list. You’ll even get the chance to see swimming iguanas!

81) Visit Saxon Switzerland National Park

A single picture of this national park will leave your jaw on the floor, with the beautiful landscapes and rock formations. This is a great spot if you’re into your hiking, while it also has a number of cycle routes.

Admission to the national park is free, as is entrance to the Bastei Bridge.

82) Go Travelling For More Than 3 Weeks

I went on plenty of holidays and always had an amazing time, helping to break up the year and take my mind of the stresses of home. However, without wanting to sound like those ‘Gap Yaaar’ people, travelling truly is eye-opening.

It changed my perspective on everything. I stopped caring about materialistic items, focusing more on experiences and life moments. I lived for travelling. That feeling at the start where the end of your travelling time is so far away it feels like you’re on a permanent holiday.

83) See The Pyramid of Giza & The Sphinx

Pyramid of Khafre
Image by George M. Groutas. Flickr creative commons

The only live member of the seven ancient wonders of the world, the Pyramid of Giza offers a truly remarkable history of human actions. The Giza Necropolis was constructed around 2500BC in honour of the Pharaohs Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure.

They were to be royal tombs that would hold the Pharaohs once they passed away.

84) Spend All Your Money In Vegas

las-vegas

I went to Las Vegas at the start of a three month travelling trip across the USA, so I didn’t exactly have much money to spend, but it is more the experience of being there and embracing the bizarreness of Vegas.

From pool parties to poker games, buffets and live shows, Vegas has so much to offer.

85) See The Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal

I was tempted not to add this one, as India has so many better experiences to offer, while the Taj Mahal is a bit of a tourist trap (attracting more than a million tourists per year), but it is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful, so I couldn’t leave it off.

This white marble building took 17 years to complete and is certainly a sight to see.

86) Eat At An Undersea Restaurant

At the time of writing, there are 14 underwater restaurants in the world for you to pick from. If you’re heading to the Maldives and you happen to have bags of cash, the Ithaa undersea restaurant is a great option.

Dubai inevitably has an undersea restaurant, but looking a bit closer to home, you can try the Atrium bar in Berlin or the L’Oceanogrpahic Submarino restaurant in Valencia.

87) Sing At A Karaoke

I might not have the greatest singing ability, but when I’m home alone I’ll instantly burst into a tune. Singing in front of people does however give me goosebumps.

Whether you opt for a karaoke session in front of a whole pub or book out a karaoke room with your friends, you have to give this a try some time, it’s a great laugh!

88) Learn To Bartend

drinks

I’m not talking about how to pour a pint. I mean making some nice cocktails, from Pina Colada to a Martini, whichever your drink of choice is, it’s great fun learning to make cocktails and having a go at shaking the flask around.

89) Learn A Form Of Martial Arts

Karate, Judo, Muay Thai, Taekwondo, Jujutsu, Jiu-jitsu, Aikido, Krav Maga, what ever martial arts you pick to learn, it will teach you to focus, self-assurance and increase your confidence.

There are plenty of classes available wherever you are, so why not give it a go as an alternative way to get into shape.

90) Spend Spring Break in Cancun

cancun

This option is slightly catered to my American friends, as we don’t celebrate Spring Break in the UK, but I’ve watched enough movies to be curious about it.

Admittedly, if you’ve celebrated Spring Break at either Miami beach, Punta Cana, Jamaica, the Bahamas or South Padre Island, then you can tick this one off.

91) Swim A Big Distance

This one is relative, so it’s down to you whether you’re willing to tick this off. I see it as a fun challenge, but you don’t need to swim to France in order to tick this off.

I swam to this little island while on holiday, which took 30 minutes to get to. Personally, I felt like I ticked off this task, as it was exhausting and took me a week of constant swimming to get to that level, but I also don’t want anyone to drown based on my challenge, so be careful please!

92) Do A Big Activity For Charity

Whether it’s a charity run or volunteering at a homeless shelter, you should try and do something special to help raise funds for a charity that really deserves the donations.

93) See The Colosseum

Colosseum

Located in Rome, the Colosseum is one of the most identifiable images in the world. The oval amphitheatre was built in 70-80 AD, where Gladiators would battle to the death.

94) Visit O Cristo Redentor in Rio De Janeiro

Christ the Redeemer was constructed in 1922, making it one of the more modern sculptures on this list.

Admittedly, I’m not Christian, therefore this one doesn’t appeal to me as much, but I wouldn’t mind climbing the Corcovado mountain and looking over Rio de Janeiro.

95) Go To Sydney Opera House

This multi venue performing arts centre is a beautiful building which is used largely as the image of Australia. Now a UNESCO world heritage site, the building was built by 10,000 construction workers and took 14 years to complete.

96) Go To A Full Moon Party in Thailand

Partying all night on a beach, how can you say no to that? There are a number of full moon parties and half moon parties in Thailand, the most famous being on the island of Ko Pha-ngan and Hat Rin.

Make sure to avoid any temptation to smoke weed, the Thai laws are very strict on this subject and if caught, you will serve 5 years in a Thai prison.

97) Check Out All The Futuristic Technology In Tokyo

Tokyo is such an interesting places to visit. A trip to the future museum is a must, where you can learn about current science and innovation projects which will shape the future.

A ride on the bullet train will make you wish we could go a bit quicker back home with our useless transport services.

Tokyo even has a robot restaurant, where you will have your food served by a robot lady, while you see a robot panda on a dragon floating by.

98) Visit Easter Island

Located in the South Pacific, Easter Island is now a UNESCO world heritage site. The Moai statues stand 13 foot tall, however many people accidentally think it’s just a head, but the bodies are submerged into the ground.

99) Learn To Juggle

I’m ticking this one off, as I can just about juggle three balls after a couple of months of trying, but I truly tip my hat to those that can easily do five balls, it’s so hard!

You can very quickly learn by following video guides on YouTube, while three balls are cheap to buy, or you can just use some oranges.

100) Fly A Kite

“Let’s go fly a kite”, flying a kite shouldn’t just be for kids. I used to do it in the park, while when I was older I headed down to Brighton and tried kite surfing. I wasn’t very good at the surfing, but holding that giant kite was incredible, as it lifted me in the air.

The Table

Post me your record so far at [email protected] and I will include your score below. I am only mid table so far, however hoping to catch up a bit over the next few months!

The number one spot is now held by John Ashfield, who also came out with extra recommendations:

I got to 60 but there were a number of others that I’ve done but in different locations!

So, have I missed some more from the list? Do let me know, eventually I want to make this list 500 long!

Most of this is travelng, it would be nice if you listed things most people could do, such as watch the top 100 rated films from IMDB, create your own breer from scratch, prepare a meal using only what you have grown yourself, take part in a marathon… the list goes on. Hope it helps to inspire the next list.

that’s a fair point mate, I have loved trying to tick off the top 100 rated films on IMDB, so many gems! I need to watch a few of the oldies still.

I wrote ‘see a legendary musician’, at no point did I say you have to see Led Zeppelin, sorry if that wasn’t clear, my dad saw them live and I was making the example that you want to see someone who you can tell your kids about with pride. For me personally, I’ve seen a few bands that are good, but not one that I think will have that legendary status in the future, so it’s still on my bucket list.
