The Pink Salmon is a species of the Salmon family and most abundant of the Pacific variety, and its name stems from the Russian word Gorbúša which literally means humpie. This down to the fact that during their spawning migration, males develop a famous pronounced humped back. The life of a Pink Salmon is short, only living for two years. The young are hatched in streams and rear for several months before migrating towards the ocean; after spending less than two years here, they migrate back into the streams, spawn, and die. Due to their short life span, the Pink Salmon is the smallest Salmon species, an average fish is around 5lb in weight, and the biggest ever landed on rod and line is only 14lb.
