Former UFC fighter-turned-analyst Din Thomas has been under the cosh after suggesting a bizarre way for fans to help improve fighter pay.
According to Thomas, MMA fans who have an issue with the UFC's payscale should instead seek out the gyms where their favorite fighters train and financially support the fighters themselves.
The 46-year-old Thomas wrote on Twitter:
"If you really care about "fighters", the ABSOLUTE best thing you can do, is go to your local MMA gym. Ask the coach who the hardest working fighter in the room is. Then see if you can help that fighter with equipment, monthly tuition, or a website to help them get exposure."

The strange suggestion has been met with criticism from fans, who believe that the UFC should simply be paying fighters more.
One fan compared Thomas' request to that of philanthropist and convicted murderer John du Pont, who established the Foxcatcher Farm wrestling facility in the 1980s:
"Never go full John du Pont"
Another fan suggested that the price of current UFC programming is too much to expect them to pay additional money to fighters:
"Hahahahah what. I’m paying UFC PPVs, BT Sport subscription, tickets for UFC286 are extortionate AND it’s our responsibility to fund upcoming local fighters as well??"

Daniel Cormier calls for Din Thomas to debate him in regards to Islam Makhachev vs. Alexander Volkanovski
Alexander Volkanovski is set to take on the biggest challenge of his career so far at UFC 284 when he steps up to lightweight to face champion Islam Makhachev.
Discussing the bout on his YouTube channel, Daniel Cormier believes a victory for Volkanovski would be one of the biggest upsets in UFC history:
"Guys, maybe it isn't the biggest upset in UFC history [as he previously claimed]... That might've been a bit of a stretch, but can you really look at that and think that the smaller guy going up and beating the bigger guy is not an upset? The bigger guy's supposed to win because even though I won [going up to heavyweight from light heavyweight], it was an upset, right? I was the underdog as is Alexander 'The Great'."
The UFC Hall of Famer also addressed Din Thomas whilst discussing the upcoming bout. Thomas has previously stated that 'The Great' has all the tools to find a victory against Islam Makhachev, and Cormier has invited him onto his show to debate the take:
"[Alexander Volkanovski] wants bigger. He wants greater. And if he gets greater, I stand by my word, Din Thomas, it would be one of the bigger upsets in UFC history. But all you gotta do my friend, answer the Zoom call, Din, let's do this baby [debate]. Let's go."
