The Toronto Maple Leafs have recalled winger Nick Robertson from the AHL's Toronto Marlies, the NHL team announced Monday.
Centre Pontus Holmberg will go down to the Marlies to make room for Robertson.
Sheldon Keefe also confirmed that Simon Benoit will make his season debut with Jake McCabe still not able to play as he works his way back from a groin injury.
Benoit signed with the Leafs this past off-season but suffered an injury during training camp. The 25-year-old was sent down to the Marlies where he has only appeared in two games.
The Leafs are in need of depth scoring — and Robertson has five goals and six assists in 11 AHL games this season. Keefe says Robertson will slot on the third line with Max Domi and Calle Jarnkrok.
Robertson, 22, has three goals and four assists in 31 career regular-season games for the Leafs, along with one goal in four playoff games.
The Leafs picked the Peterborough Petes product in the second round (53rd overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft.
Robertson went on to score an OHL-best 55 goals for the Petes in the 2019-20 season.
The Leafs host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
