Tokyo vs. Kyoto refers to test matches that took place between Nintendo's headquarters in Kyoto and the development team in Tokyo to test out the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection for Super Smash Bros. Brawl and the Nintendo Network for Super Smash Bros. 4. The distance between these two cities is 283.9 miles (456.9 km), about the same distance between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

A number of test matches between Tokyo and Kyoto were performed in Smash 4's development, and some clips of these matches, labelled as "Tokyo vs. Kyoto", were featured in the Smash Bros. Direct, with several clips being labeled as Tokyo vs. Kyoto, alongside a number of other online battles that were performed between undisclosed locations.
