Aqua Shard celebrates Christmas with a sculptural tree by Lee Broom
Having celebrated a recent milestone with his 10th anniversary at this year's London Design Festival, Lee Broom has added another string to his bow with the creation of a sculptural glass Christmas tree for Aqua Shard.
Designed by Broom and produced by glassware specialist Nude, the aptly titled Tree of Glass will illuminate the restaurant's atrium on the Shard's 31st floor when the lights are switched on next month. Its cascading form was inspired by the Shard's striking silhouette and the surrounding city skyline and each of its 245 pendant lights will be available to buy, with proceeds donated to the Red Cross.
The vertiginous restaurant has also developed a one-off dessert and cocktail to complement its festive centrepiece, with half of all takings also contributed to the charity.
Broom follows an illustrious line of previous Christmas tree collaborators at Aqua Shard that includes Dame Vivienne Westwood, Matthew Williamson and – last year's highlight – David Attenborough, with his Tree of Glass remaining in place until the New Year.
The Tree of Glass will be unveiled on November 14 2017
