A 33-year-old man is fighting for life in hospital after he was pushed down the stairs during a fight at a bar in east London.

The victim is critically injured after he was attacked at the Vertigo Lounge in Hornchurch in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police and paramedics were called shortly after midnight and found the man suffering severe head injuries.

Scotland Yard said he was pushed down a flight of stairs by another man following an altercation.

A 45-year-old suspect was arrested several hours after the attack at an address nearby.

The Vertigo Lounge is spread over three floors and is described on its website as “elegant but understated”. After 7pm, it is over-21s only.

Detectives are investigating and urged any witnesses to come forward.
