Mice infest BBC's new London HQ

The BBC’s £1 billion headquarters in central London has become infested with mice, just weeks after journalists moved in to the building.

In an email sent to staff, the corporation said that tackling the problem had now become a “top priority”.

Traps and bait are to be laid around New Broadcasting House in Portland Place and workers have been told to inform the facilities team as soon as they see a rodent. Managers have blamed cabling ducts for the infestation.

Staff have been told not to leave food on desks and to keep work areas tidy.

BBC journalists have been tweeting about mouse sightings and one rodent in the newsroom was named Entwistle after the former director-general.

Staff have already complained about a lack of meeting rooms and about curbs on what they can wear and where they can walk in the newsroom, which is visible from the main studio.
