My 10 year old daughter got some blood drawn and her LYM ABS came back 4.1 the range was 1.2-3.4. What is LYM ABS and should I be concerned.

abs is absolute count and lym is lymphocytes which is one of the five white blood cells. the absolute lymphocyte norm is 1.3-4.5. if a number is higher than the norms then it could be from a virus, or leukemia. the white blood cells are more when they have something bad to fight off.

Hi there,

If the test showed high number of lymphocytes it is usually a sign of an infection in the body. Sometime it can be a sign of leukemia also.

Why did she have the blood test? Is she sick, or it was just a routine test?

In my opinion this shouldn’t be left a side. You should talk to her doctor to undergo for several more test to determine what is causing her high lymphocyte count.

If she is going through flu the test can also show a high lymphocyte count. This is much easier to treat and the high lymphocyte count should be back to normal after the flu is gone. But considering the option of leukemia, go for more test just as a precautionary measure.
