How do Solar geysers Work in winter?
Solar geysers are designed to work purely with the sun and may need enhancements with a backup electric element for the 3 winter months depending on what part of the country you are in. All SunFire geysers are supplied with ports for an element or backup element. Elements can be purchased at any hardware store, SunFire does not sell elements in order to help you save money on shipping, please check with your installer for these and other additions ( Geyserwise, electric temperature meter, etc) you may decide to include as additional features. SunFire solar geysers come as a complete kit including the tank, tubes, stand and everything up to the inlet and outlet valve.

Solar Geysers and freezing
The high pressure solar water heaters do not circulate water through the tubes.
The Low pressure solar water heaters do circulate water through the tubes.
Older flat plate solar geyser collector systems need glycol or antifreeze, this is often the cause for the entire system (which should last 20 years) to break/burst/.SunFire's new vacuum tube systems do not need glycol or antifreeze making them maintenance free. SunFire Solutions manufactures and distributes newer or more efficient vacuum tubes. Making Sunfire solar geysers maintenance free and to this day we have had no reports of freezing.

What about hail damage to the tubes of the geyser?
In order to prevent hail damage, SunFire Solutions imports tubes with 0.2mm greater thickness in order to counteract hail damage (SunFire has not had any reports of breakage to date). The extra thickness of our tubes adds to water heater/ geysers insulation ability to retain heat overnight and maintain its temperature in the winter months.

Is a solar geyser worth it?

On average about 40 to 60% of your monthly electricity bills is generated from your geyser boiling water while youre not even at home. So lets say you spend about R1000 on electricity monthly if you could save up to 60% then after 2 years the geyser has paid for itself and you continue to have hot showers. What is the difference between high and low pressure geysers?
High pressure solar geysers are designed for on-grid water supply (municipality). Anything over 200kpa is considered high pressure, however, 400kpa is ideally what you would want to run your hot water pressure at. The water pressure at the hot water tap will be the same as the pressure from your cold water tap, provided the pipes are of equal diameter.
Low-pressure solar geyser means that the water in the tank is under low pressure and is equal to the gravity of the inlet water (header tank). Low-pressure solar geysers have a pressure rating of no more than 100kpa. Low-pressure systems are typically used in rural areas and farms, where municipal water supply is not available.
