Syracuse, N.Y. -- Micron Technology this week cleared one of its biggest hurdles to building a chipmaking plant in Central New York: confirmation of $4.6 billion in grants from the federal government.

Micron plans to break ground in November 2025, but before that the company will need dozens of approvals and permits from agencies ranging from the town of Clay to the federal Environmental Protection Agency.
