Syracuse, NY -- A man who made the 2006 Onondaga County Top 10 Most Wanted List was arrested in Montreal, Quebec, and has been returned to Syracuse, the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office announced today.
Authorities had been looking for Raymundo Contreras, 47, since he skipped bail on a 2004 drug charge, deputies said.
Syracuse police stopped Contrearas' car in 2004, in which a small amount of cocaine was found in the car's glove box, deputies said. That led to a search warrant executed on the car. Several ounces of cocaine and $10,000 in cash were discovered in a hidden compartment, deputies said.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police made the arrest in Montreal, Sgt. John D'Eredita said. The mounties notified the sheriff's warrant investigators. The Canadian government issued Contreras a Queen's warrant to vacate the country and coordinated a return of Contreras to the county with the U.S. Marshals Office. The U.S. State Department and the Onondaga County District Attorney's Office were also involved in getting Contreras to return to the county.
Contreras is lodged in the Onondaga County Justice Center and is scheduled to appear Monday in Onondaga County Criminal Court.
He is facing charges of two felony charges and misdemeanor charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
