Hastings, N.Y. -- State police arrested twin brothers Damian J. Bonanni and John X. Bonanni, age 27, in connection with an attempted armed robbery of an Oswego County gas station.

A masked man armed with what appeared to be a black handgun entered the Mirabito Gas Station on Route 11 in Hastings at about 7:30 p.m. Friday and demanded money from the cashier, police said. The suspect eventually left the store without any money.

An investigation by state police led to the arrest of the Bonanni brothers. Police identified John X. Bonanni as the suspect and charged him with attempted robbery in the first degree, a felony. Damian Bonanni provided transportation to and from the scene for his brother, police said. He was charged with conspiracy fourth degree, a felony.
The weapon turned out to be a BB gun replica of a semi-automatic pistol.
