With work on the new Fayetteville bus garage and renovated transportation offices now complete, the district wants to show them to the community.
An open house will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at the transportation office at 22 W. Franklin St., Fayetteville, directly behind Wellwood Middle School. Parking will be available in the Wellwood Middle School parking lot off of West Franklin Drive.
Buses began using the new garage when school started in September, moving out of the temporary location in the summer. The district had been operating out of the old O'Brien & Gere facility on Route 5 in Fayetteville while work took place.
F-M residents approved a $10.5 million capital projectin March 2011 that included demolishing and then rebuilding the 60-year-old bus garage. The old garage had numerous structural issues, such as crumbling walls and cracked flooring, and inadequate work and storage space.
Renovations to the 30-year-old transportation office included replacing asbestos tile flooring, making the bathrooms compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and upgrading the heating and ventilation system.
